Case Details:
Shabana Khatun lives in the Howrah District and was married on 20 November 2006. Very
soon after her marriage, Khatun’s in-laws threatened to expel her from their home.
In January 2007, Khatun’s husband was drunk and beat Khatun until she hade bruises all over
her body. Khatun’s husband choked Khatun by squeezing her neck in an attempt to kill her. On
3 May 2007, Khatun’s in-laws badly beat her and expelled her from their house.
On 3 May 2007, Khatun attempted to lodge a complaint with the Golbari PS but was refused. On
the same day, she lodged a General Diary entry with the Bankra Outpost. On 29 May 2007,
Khatun sent a written complaint to the Howrah PS. However, the police have taken no action.

Case Details:
Victim Shambhunath Dutta’s neighbor constantly used to pick fights with Dutta. On 3 March
2007, Dutta attempted to lodge a complaint with the Murshidabad PS Inspector-in-Charge, but it
was only recorded as General Diary entry.
