Case Detail:
Victim Kalidas Ghosh, age 17, was a student in Angrail Bidyamandir High School of Angrail
Dakshinpara Village.
On 28 December 2007, at around 3.30 pm, Ghosh was playing ball with his friends at the school.
The ball accidentally rolled near a Border Security Force (BSF) Outpost near the village. The
boys went to retrieve the ball but were chased away by BSF officers. A constable followed
Ghosh into his school and shot and killed him.
At around 7:00pm on the same day, Ghosh’s uncle lodged a complaint with Gaighata PS.
Ghosh’s uncle was not provided with a copy of the complaint. In retaliation, the BSF lodged a
counter-complaint against Ghosh for attempted assault and murder of a public servant. Locals
protested Ghosh’s killing and the police responded with a lathi-charge.

On 6 th November 2007, deceased victim Saju Ali Mondol and few others attempted to smuggle
cows and buffaloes. While returning, one BSF PC shot victim in the head. He died on the spot.
To fabricate an encounter death, the PC placed some weapons near Saju and took photos. The
body was taken to Raninagar PS.
