At 4:20pm, the police conducted a lathi charge. Das was injured and received several bleeding<br />
wounds. Singur PS police officers registered a case against him under sections 147/148/149/<br />
333/332/325/326/353/307 of the Indian Penal Code. Specifically, Das was charged with rioting,<br />
being armed with deadly weapon by forming unlawful assembly, attempted murder, causing<br />
grievous hurt, preventing the public servants to discharge duties. Das was also charged under<br />
section 9(B) (1) of the Indian Explosive Act.<br />

Case Details:<br />
On 28 August 2007 there was a fire at a fireworks factory run by Abdul Karim and Julfikar Ali.<br />
Three children died in the fire. On 29 th August 2007, victims Madar Ali, a daily wage laborer, and<br />
Rafique Ali, a vegetable vendor, were arrested for trafficking illegal fireworks in association with<br />
the fire at the fireworks factory.<br />
Abdul Karim and Julfikar Ali were separately arrested. On 29 August 2007, Mr. Madar Ali and<br />
Mr. Rafique Ali appeared before the Magistrate of Barasat Court. The Magistrate ordered them<br />
remanded to judicial custody. The victims spent a long time in judicial custody without any<br />
access to an attorney.<br />
Abdul Karim and Julfikar Ali were released without charges.<br />
