On 18 May 2007, at 11:00pm, victim Ali Hussein Mondal, age 30, went out to look for work and
was confronted by Border Security Force (BSF) Officer of Batallion Number 191. The BSF
Officers shot and killed Mondal.
A case was registered with the Gaighata PS against Mondal under the Indian Penal Code for
obstructing public functions, using criminal force to deter public servants from discharging their
duties, and attempted murder.
Mondal’s relatives did not lodge a complaint against the BSF Officers out of fear of retaliation.
Gaighata PS Investigating Officer Narayan Ghosh did not cooperate with fact finders.
