Case Details:<br />

Victim Safiqul Islam was suspected of conducting smuggling activities on the border.<br />

On 22 April 2007, at around 3:30am, the Border Security Force (BSF) shot Islam at the No. 7<br />

Outpost Kaharpara, Raninagar, Murshidabad one kilometer inside the International Border<br />

Pillar with Bangladesh, while Islam was allegedly attempting to cross the border. The bullet<br />

penetrated through the left side of Islam’s abdomen. No medical personnel were called to<br />

determine if Islam was dead. Instead, the BSF officers and Raninagar SP police officers<br />

declared Islam dead and transported his body to Raninagar PS. Islam’s body was displayed<br />

in front of the Raninagar PS in public view.<br />
