On another occasion, some people attacked Harendra Nath Majhi’s home and told his family
that they would kill him. When Harendra Nath Majhi learned what had happened, he went to
Jalangi PS, but SI Tapas Kumar Ghosh insulted and arrested him.
The police detained Harendra Nath Majhi in the lock-up for more than 24 hours and produced
him before Serampore Learned Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Serampore, Hooghly on
13 March 2007.
With the help of Advocate Bappaditya, Harendra Nath Majhi obtained bail.
Harendra Nath Majhi has been unable to return to home, fearing those who threatened to kill him.
The police have taken no action.

Case Details:
Dayarampur is located on the border of India and Bangladesh. The BSF received bribes to
assist smuggling activities. Victim Minarul Seikh was a member of a smuggling group. He
later withdrew and formed another group. Competition arose between the two gangs.
On 8 th January 2007, police seized two pistols from the house of Satyendra Nath Pramanik.
Police learned that the Minnal Biswas, the leader of Minarul’s former gang, stashed the guns
at Satyendra’s house. Minnal Biswas was then attacked and stabbed by some thugs on 13 th
October 2007. Minnal Biswas’s uncle lodged a complaint at Jalangi PS.
The SI and the police of Jalangi PS filed a false case for the attack against Mader Mondal. On
9th November 2007, they attempted to arrest Mader Mondal, but he managed to escape.
