Case Details:
Bacharam Manna, Coordinator of the Krishijami Raksha Committee, along with 250-300 others
went to protest against the TATA Small Car Project near the fence of the TATA project at Khaser
Chak Village, Singur. On 19 August 2007 at 10.30am, POs from the Singur PS arrested
Bacharam Manna along with 8-9 other protestors including 3 women. During the arrest, the
police beat Bacharam Manna with a wooden stick. Bacharam Manna was taken to
Chandannagar PS. Later, the police released the three women after obtaining their signatures on
a bond paper. The other male protestors were sent to Chandannagar Court.
Member of Ratanpur Gram Panchayat Subhas Samanta lodged a complaint at MASUM on
behalf of Bacharam Manna describing the incident of 31 August 2007.

Case Details:
On 23 July 2007, victim Jayanta Mondal’s daughter-in-law lodged a complaint with Sankrail PS
against Jayanta’s family.
Later that day, Sankraul PS officer came to Mondal’s house and asked to see his daughter-inlaw,
but she was not at home. The officers instructed Mondal’s wife to tell Mondal to appear at the
station the next day.
