Case Details:
Sima Adhikary is a sex worker whose family is wholly dependent on her income.
On 8 July 2007, 3-4 Dhubulia PS police officers arrested Adhikary and some other sex
workers. There were no female arresting police officers and there were no female police
officers at the Dhubulia PS.
The male Dhubulia PS police officers forced the women to change their clothes in front of them.
On 9 July 2007, Dhubulia PS Officer-in-Charge Biman Mridha beat the women with a baton.
The women were also detained for two days and the police registered a case against them.
Adhikary and the other women sent complaints to several higher police officials but no follow-up
action was taken.

Case Details:
All the victims in this case are sex workers. They come from very poor families and their families
were fully dependent on their income. On 8 th July 2007 at around 10.30pm the victims went to a
‘Dhaba’ near Bahadurpur railway crossing. On that time 3-4 policemen at plain clothes came to
that place and took them to Dhubulia PS. There was no woman police at the time of arrest and
also no woman police was at the PS.
