Chandan Banik was detained for a full day, which affected his examination preparation.
After this date, the police continued to harass Bipul Banik and his family.
On 3 September 2006 at 2.40am, OC Sukhamoy Chakraborty and another officer forcefully
entered Bipul Banik’s house. They ransacked the house, and the OC beat Bipul. When
Chhaya Bank protested, the OC insulted her and hit her with a stick.
On 19 July 2007 at 9.00pm, PI PRabir Roy came with other policemen in civilian clothing to Bipul
Banik’s house. They chased Chandan Bani, and insulted the family.
On 27 July 2007 at 9.00pm, the PI returned with other police officers in civilian clothing. The
officers misbehaved with the family members, and threatened to incriminate Kajol Banik in a
murder case and to imprison him for two years.
In August 2007, Kajol Banik died in a gang war.

Case Details:
Victim Saikh Rafikuddin, age 38, live in the village of Dakshin Jalkhura in Mahestala, Kolkata.
Rafikuddin owns a jeans factory.
On 5 April 2007, at around 10:30pm, a local man who is a known extortionist (hereinafter, “the
extortionist”) and his associates ransacked Rafikuddin’s factory and attacked his employees
with bamboo and wooden sticks.
Rafikuddin attempted to lodge a complaint with the Mahestala PS. However, Officer Kalipada
Mondal refused and told Rafikuddin that that the investigating officer would return and handle the
complaint. Subsequently, the extortionist came to the Mahestala PS. The extortionist had a
private conversation with ASI Shyamal Talukdar and another police officer. Soon after, Officer
Talukdar slapped Rafikuddin and repeatedly punched and kicked him. Rafikuddin was rendered
unconscious and was subsequently locked up.
At midnight on the same day, the investigating officer, K.P. Nag, returned from the jeans factory
and released Rafikuddin. However, Officer Nag forced Rafikuddin sit on a bench for the entire
