Case Details:<br />
In March 2007, relatives of victim Subas Naskar, age 35, beat Subas and also victim Himan<br />
Naskar. Subas sustained injuries to his head and left elbow, and he also had abrasions all over<br />
his body.<br />
Subas and Hisman attempted to lodge a complaint with the Bhangar PS, but the police officers<br />
there only entered a General Diary entry. Later, local CPI (M) leaders influenced the police to<br />
dismiss the General Diary entry.<br />
On 14 August 2007, relatives of victim Tanu Naskar beat her with bamboo sticks and on the<br />
road. Tanu was found lying in a pool of blood on the road. Tanu’s relative also attempted to kill<br />
her son. The relatives also stole Rs. 1200 worth of jewelry from Tanu. Tanu attempted to lodge<br />
a complaint with the Canning PS, but the Canning PS OC only recorded a General Diary entry.<br />
The relatives were not investigated because they had a very good relationship with the ruling<br />
CPI (M) party.<br />

Tanu lodged complaints with the <strong>West</strong> <strong>Bengal</strong> Human Rights Commission and <strong>West</strong> <strong>Bengal</strong><br />
Commission for Women but no investigations or other actions have taken place.
