Case Details:<br />
On 18 September 2006, victim Kanakeswar Banerjee, age 28, attended a festival located at East<br />
Agarpara Station near an auto stand.<br />
At around 12:30am, Banerjee attempted to break up a fight between two boys (hereinafter, “the<br />
attackers”). The boys then attacked and beat Banerjee and threw him near a drain. Banerjee’s<br />
brother found him on the ground unconscious. At 9:15 am, Banerjee died from his injuries.<br />
On 18 September 2006, the Bhawanipur PS registered a General Diary entry (GDE No. 1943)<br />
and conducted an inquest at the morgue.<br />
On 19 September 2006, Banerjee’s brother lodged a FIR with the Khardash PS. No subsequent<br />
action was taken. The attackers and their families have since threatened Banerjee’s family. The<br />
attackers’ families have strong political influence.<br />

Case Details:<br />
On 23 October 2006, after 10:00pm, victim Kashmira Khatun was killed as she was on her way<br />
to her sister’s house. Her body was found the next day in the village of Koleypara, Bhagabatipur.<br />
It has not been ruled out that Khatun was also raped.<br />
Two cases were registered at the Chanditala PS o 24 October 2006: (1) case no.136 under<br />
section 302/201 of the Indian Penal Code; and (2) an unnatural death case no. 59.
