Case Details:
Victim Masadul Seikh, aged 22 was a resident of Char Ramchandrapur village, falling under the
jurisdiction of Raninagar Police Station. The victim transported cattle across the border owing to his
stringent economic conditions. Accordingly, Masadul was trying to transport a buffalo in the border area
on 24 th December 2007. A police constable of BSF fired from his camp, causing a bullet to penetrate into
the victim’s lower neck. He shot again on the victim’s head so as to kill him on the spot. After murdering
the victim, the BSF tried to suppress the incident, and didn’t allow anybody to go near the place. SI
Pradip Biswas of Raninagar Police Station arrived at the place with his force and identified the body as
that of Masadul. The BSF on the other hand colored the murder as an encounter. Such kinds of
activities have become a daily routine in the border area. People who bribe the BSF are set free and the
others are killed. In contrast to such issues, the police of Raninagar refuse to take any complaints of
torture and killing.
