missing. Ramprasad came to Bengal Tax Association who helped him lodge a complaint in Bhawanipur Police Station. But the OIC of the station just filed a general diary entry. The Association gave a written complaint to the Joint Commissioner of Police demanding action against the negligent police. The matter was taken up by the media, following which the Association withdrew their support owing to their political influence. The victim was badly injured and is mentally depressed after this incident. She was married to Santanu Roy on 14 th August 1999. Right from 2006 the victim has been residing in her mother Bakul Biswas’s house, because Santanu Roy had an illegal affair with Jhuma Naskar, W/o Amal Naskar, a police official. Rupa also has a 7 year old daughter who stays along with her. During November 2007 Santanu came to her house and stole some articles. The victim went to lodge a complaint at Zinzira Bazar Police Station but her complaint was refused, owing to the political influence of Amal Naskar. On 6 th January 2008 Santanu came to Rupa’s house once again and forced her to sign on a divorce paper. Rupa’s mother is a heart patient and thus she became ill hearing this. On 8 th January 2008 Rupa went to Zinzira Bazar Investigation centre to lodge a complaint but the Officer on duty abused her with filthy words before filing the complaint. Again Rupa’s husband came home on 26 th January 2008 and tried to take her daughter forcibly. He also threatened to ransack the house and abduct her along with her daughter. The victim and her mother have not lodged a complaint out of their fear towards the police. The economic condition of Rupa is also very poor and she has no sufficient money to go to Maheshtala Police Station and lodge a complaint. Chowdhury, SI Location : Shibdaspur, Naihati Date of incident : 19/06/2007 Case Details: Victim Sabeda Bbi, aged 35, is a daily wage labourer, residing in Shibdaspur, falling under the jurisdiction of Naihati Police Station. The victim is the bread winner of the family for her husband Sheikh Moslem is physically challenged. On 19 th June 2007 Sabeda was arrested by Muchipara Police for no cause. They were clad in civilian attire, and denied telling the reason for arrest. The officials neither issued a memo of arrest not informed the family members about the arrest, thereby violating the D.K. Judgment. There wasn’t any lady police escort while Sabeda was arrested. The victim was released after her brother-in-law bribed the police. Complaints were sent to the Commissioner of Police, SHRC and SWC. Mr. Pradip Kumar Dutta, the ACP assured to inquire the matter. In the meantime, the neighbours of the victim began to suspect Subeda as a criminal, and ill-treated her. During the month of February 2008 few policemen from Naihati Police Station came to the house of the victim and summoned her to the police station, giving a chit which wasn’t stamped. The case was taken to the Women Grievance Cell of Kolkata Police on 12 th February 2008, but the officials often called for Sabeda’s brother-in-law in relation to the case, the result of which the latter lost interest in the case and denied helping the victim. Thus Subeda has been facing problems from various angles. His wife Parul Bibi, daughter and two sons are residing in Bangladesh. The victim was arrested by the BSF Officials of Char Bhadra Camp, and handed over to Jalangi Police Station, from where he was produced before the CJM, Berhampore on 17 th July 2007. Safikul was sent to Berhampore Central Correctional Home, Murshidabad. On 27 th February 2008 the victim was convicted and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for six months and a fine of Rs.200. The period expired on 18 th January 2008, but he was not released. The SP of the Correctional Home stated that prisoners were sent in lots of 30 at a time, but later it came to light that there were more than 50 prisoners in the home, who were detained under illegal custody. The Assistant Director of the Intelligence Bureau assured to release the victim at the earliest but to no avail. Safikul was suffering ill-treatment in the correctional home, and states that they had to pay Rs.20 per meal for getting food.
