Case Details:<br />

Victim Basudeb Sarkar, aged 30, was a farmer residing in Gobindapur, falling under the jurisdiction of<br />

Swarupnagar Police Station. BSF Officials entered the house of the victim violently and tried to take him<br />

but after the plea of his mother they went away. Basudeb was involved in smuggling cattle long back<br />

owing to poor family conditions, but later he recant. The BSF Officials didn’t let him go but arrested him<br />

one day along with Anup. The latter was released under bail but the victim was shot dead on 31 st<br />

December 2007. The investigation proved that he was shot with two bullets which pierced through his<br />

chest from a very close range. The officials took Basudeb to a far away hospital despite the fact that there<br />

was a hospital close by. The reason attributed by the officials is that the victim was shot dead by<br />

Constable Binoy Bist as he tried to escape carrying away a rifle. The post mortem was conducted by S.<br />

Barman of J.R. Dhar Hospital, Bongaon on 2 nd January 2008, two days after the death. Two cases were<br />

registered in Swarupnagar Police Station and Bongaon Police Station respectively by the BSF against<br />

Basudeb stating attempt to murder and unnatural death on 31 st December 2007. Lilima Sarkar, the wife<br />

of the deceased also filed a case on 1 st January 2008 in Swarupnagar Police Station. Constable Binoy<br />

was arrested in connection with the case and he managed to get bail from the Sessions’ Court.<br />

Case Details:<br />

Victim Bishnu Pada Roy, aged 32 was a resident of Angrail Uttar colony, falling within the jurisdiction of<br />

Gaighata Police Station. On 10 th December 2007 the victim went out of his house to meet his friend.<br />

Suddenly Kakoli, the wife of the victim heard the sound of firing. Bishnu didn’t return home till late and his<br />

wife was afraid to go out and search for it was night. In the morning she received news of the death of<br />

Bishnu. An unnatural death case was filed at Gaighata Police Station dated 11 th December 2007. The<br />

investigation was done by SI Aurobindo Ghosh and the post mortem was done at S.D. Hospital,<br />

Bongaon. The SI of Gaighata Police Station on inquiry admitted that the BSF Officials have established<br />

a reign of terror in the region. They would kill any victim in the name of encounter, be it an Indian or a<br />

Bangladeshi. It was later revealed that the victim was shot dead by Constable Narayan Khatry of BSF<br />

<strong>West</strong> <strong>Bengal</strong><br />
