Case Details:<br />

Victim Mithu Ghosh is an activist belonging to organizations called Shramik Sangram Committee<br />

(SSC) and Krishak Committee. The victim was arrested during the early hours of 12 th February 2008<br />

from Sonachura village, alleging him of inciting the people with ‘Maoist Propaganda’. Sudhanshu Das,<br />

the organizer of Bhumi Uchched Protirodh Committee was also arrested the same day. The police<br />

surreptitiously added several documents in the ‘seizure list’ prepared in the case, which Mithu never<br />

distributed. The victim was regularly visiting Nandigram since the outburst of people’s struggle. He also<br />

authored many literatures which appeared in the publications of organizations like SANDHIKSHAN,<br />

SRAMIK ISTAHAAR, and KRISHAK PATH. The complaint against Mithu was submitted before the<br />

ACJM,Haldia, which also contained the names of the above mentioned editors. A well known cultural<br />

activist, Jolly Bagchi by name was also included in the complaint, alleging all of them to have involved<br />

in conspiracy in waging war against the state. On 19 th March 2008 the arrested persons were produced<br />

before the magistrate but the court rejected their bail petition. The members of SSC and that of other<br />

organizations visited the CID, and DIG ventilating their grievances against the arbitrary police action.<br />

Victims Josim Seikh, Mohidur Mondol and Sapatullah Sarkar are fishermen residing at Murshidabad.<br />

On 6 th Sep. 2006 the victims had gone fishing, during which they were arrested by the Bangladesh Rifle<br />

(BDR) Camp, which was led by SI Bosiruddin Ahmed. They entered into the Indian territory and<br />
