Case Details:
Victim Israul Seikh is a resident of Kankuni, where he has been residing for more than 50 years. Since
the past three years the victim has been facing problems from Anoar Mallik, an immigrant from
Bangladesh, who escaped from his country having committed some murder. This person made good
relations with the local anti- social elements and police in the region. He used to collect money illegally
from small businessmen of the locality. On 6 th February 2008 this Anoar came to the tea shop of the
victim and demanded money. A year back, on 26 th February 2007 the same man came to the hotel of
Israul and demanded money. When the victim denied it, he entered Israul’s house, scattered all the
things and beat up his wife Nax Bibi. Israul filed a case at Alipore Court for he was ignored by the police.
On 31 st January 2007 the OIC of Rabindranagar Police Station stopped Israul on the road, dragged him
to the police van, took him to the station holding the nape of his neck, and forced him to sign in a blank
paper. The same thing was repeated this time also, and Israul was brutally beaten up by Anoar, who
also took away Rs.3000 from his house. After the destruction of the tea shop, the victim went to
Rabindranagar Police Station, where he was advised to abide by the words of the perpetrator. On 13
th
February 2008 Israul send a written complaint to the SP. The local people are so afraid of Anoar that they
fear to protest against his illegal activities.

Case Details:
Victim Kanai Mondal, aged 50, is a resident of Char Rajanagar village, falling under the jurisdiction of
Raninagar Police Station. The victim is a marginalized farmer and was also a social activist. His was not
in the good report of the police, and the latter tried to trap Kanai in some way or the other. On 27 th April
2008 Rajat Das, SI of Raninagar Police Station barged into the house of the victim along with 12
policemen while the family was sleeping. Kanai was arrested without issuing any memo of arrest. The
victim was just in his under garments and the police didn’t allow him to wear his lungi (casual wear
similar to dhoti) either. The police kept Rs.3,060 found in the shirt pocket of the victim in their custody.
