beat him up at that time. At night Rausnara came to the house of the victim and the sister-in-law of Azan
began chasing her with a broom. During this time the perpetrators arrived at the place and assaulted all
the female members of the victim’s family. The BDO and a doctor named Saidul demanded the family
of the victim to arrange for the marriage or pay a compensation of Rs.50,000. On 23 rd February 2006
2006 Asgar Ali, brother of Azan was arrested during midnight, and his wife was abused by the officials
and pushed down tearing her blouse. The next day at the station, the OIC advised Rausnara to lodge a
complaint against the family of the victim. Asgar was produced before Barasat Court and sent to jail
custody. He was released on bail after 28 days. Azan was also arrested and released after 21 days of
detention. On 26 th January 2007 police again came to the house of the victim to harass them. On 24 th
