with 500 villagers attacked Abdus in the name of ration scam. The villagers demanded money and
confined him in a room inside the mosque. The villagers also tried to loot his house and hurled bombs
in front of his house. A minor boy named Roket Sheikh, aged 10 was injured at this. The matter was
informed to Sagardighi Police Station, who arrived with the officials of Rapid Action Force (RAF), and
searched the house of the victim. The above mentioned perpetrators kept two bags of explosives in the
house of Abu Bakkar, the brother of Abdus, and betrayed them in the hands of the police. Thus
Sagardighi Police fabricated a false case against Abdus on 12 th October 2007. A month passed away,
and all the male members of the victim’s family stayed away from the house out of fear. During this time,
the villagers kicked the house of Abu Bakkar and abused the women. Sujit Mondal, SI of Sagardighi
Police Station visited the house of Abu Bakkar several times and destroyed the furniture. He also
abused the female members in the family including victim Selima. It came to light later that the reason
behind this behavior of the villagers and the perpetrators is that Abdus was involved in smuggling the
items supplied to the ration shop.
