Station dated 14 th February 2008. It is pertinent to mention that Sankar was a witness of a bus hijack
case, which is still pending before the court. The victim was supposed to appear as a witness before the
court on 13 th February 2008, and since that day he was missing. But the police remained inactive in this
case. On 16 th February 2008 Sankar’s body was discovered from a pond in the locality. It was
suspected a murder and police arrested three suspects but that were soon released. The body was
send for post mortem and when the family of the deceased asked for the copy of the same the officials
asked them to get an order from the SDPO. Even now the police are playing a dull role and not giving
any sort of assistance to the victim’s family.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) is the ruling party in the state of West Bengal since September 2007.
These party men are engaged in torturing the opposite Trinamul Party supporters’ right from the time
they came to rule. Bankra Munshidanga Seikh Para is one such area, falling under the jurisdiction of
Domjur Police Station which was filled with riots. On 19 th September 2007 Afjal and five other local
CPI(M) members attacked victim Seikh Raja with weapons and cut the vein of his right hand. He was
admitted in Howrah Hospital and received treatment for ten days. Similarly on 7 th January 2008 a group
of 50 to 60 members of the same party attacked the houses of many Trinamul Party supporters’
including Seikh Kabirul. The perpetrators chopped the nose of the victim with a sharp weapon and he too
was hospitalized for four days. Domjur Police Station registered four reports from 19 th September 2007
to 9 th January 2008 on getting complaints from the victims, but they have been inactive. Two police
officials were posted on duty in the peek areas, but the members of CPI(M) used the very batons of the
policemen for assaulting the victims.
