Case Details:<br />
Victim Sabina Iasmin, aged 21 was married to Ripon Mondal, of Biswaspara village, falling under the<br />
jurisdiction of Jalangi Police Station. The victim’s father Abdus Mondal gave Rs.23,000 and other<br />
valuable things as dowry. Ripon was unemployed at the time of marriage. Abdus helped him to establish<br />
a computer centre in Jalangi, providing him monetary assistance. But Ripon wasn’t satisfied and<br />
demanded more dowry. Sabina was subjected to continuous physical and mental torture. She had a<br />
year old son too. She was not allowed to go to her father’s house either. On 28 th January 2008 the victim<br />
was tortured to bring Rs.3,000, but she refused owing to Abdus’ poor economic condition. That day she<br />
was severely beaten that the victim set herself on fire at night while everybody were sleeping. Sabina<br />
was rushed to the hospital but expired on 16 th February 2008. Abdus had lodged complaints against his<br />
son-in-law at Jalangi Police Station on 30 th January 2008 and 17 th February 2008. The SI and CI of the<br />
station arrested one accused among them namely Nazmul Haque but released at once. Abdus visited<br />
Jalangi Police Station frequently but the OIC refused to give him the copy of the FIR. He was also<br />
threatened to be implicated in false cases, and stated that he was responsible for his daughter’s death.<br />
A case of unnatural death was filed on 16 th February 2008. Written complaints were send to the SP of<br />
Berhampore on 25 th February 2008 but in vain.<br />

Case Details:<br />
Victim Sahanara Bibi, aged 28, is a rag picker residing in Basanti Colony, falling under the jurisdiction of<br />
Ultadanga Police Station. Her husband is no more and the victim has a daughter named Fatema<br />
Khatun. During February 2007 Fatema was missing, following which a complaint was filed in Ultadanga<br />
Police Station. The missing person squad of Lalbazar started their search after the intervention of the<br />
human right organization. Then the case was transferred to Immoral Traffic Section, of Kolkata Police.<br />
On 1 st September 2007 Fatema returned back from Bodh Gaya. The next day Sahanara went to the<br />
