Case Details:<br />

Victim Nani Gopal Maity, aged 55, is the head master of Kamalpur Junior Basic School. He belongs to<br />

the Scheduled Caste Community. On 25 th February 2008 while the victim was handling classes for 4 th<br />

standard, two people namely Anukul Chandra Bera and Chandan Mondal entered the class room and<br />

started demanding money from Nani. All of a sudden they got furious, dragged the victim catching hold<br />

of his shirt, pushed him to the floor and started assaulting him. They stated that his son had borrowed<br />

Rs.30,000 from them and wanted it returned. They beat Nani repeatedly and took away the money he<br />

had. Due to this brutal act his forehead was bleeding. The students began to shout in fear, and the people<br />

of the locality rushed for help. Nani immediately went to Sagar Police Station to lodge a complaint, before<br />

which the perpetrators had filed a false complaint stating that the victim had assaulted them. The officials<br />

of Sagar Police Station refused to accept the complaint but after investigation, finding the truth a case was<br />

filed against the perpetrators. But the police were pressurizing Nani to compromise the case. On 27 th<br />

February 2008 a village meeting was called to discuss on the issue and the perpetrators confessed their<br />

guilt. After the meeting the victim was again facing threats. Finally a case was filed at ACJM Court of<br />

Kakdip on 17 th March 2008. Though the court ordered for investigation, the Sagar Police took no<br />

initiative.<br />

Case Details:<br />

Victim Narayan Dutta, aged 48 and Munmun Dutta, aged 30 were married in 2006, and dwelled in<br />

Joynarayan Babu Lane, falling under the jurisdiction of Bantra Police Station. The victim has two<br />

brothers, and it was Narayan who looked after his deceased father’s business. After the victim’s<br />

marriage with Munmun his brothers picked up a quarrel with Narayan and tried to evict him from the<br />

house. The victim’s brothers jointly bought a house and didn’t give Narayan a share. The victim was<br />

working as a salesman and stayed in the rented house. Right from the month of May 2007 to April 2008<br />
