Case Details:<br />

Victim Mohammad Mustafa, aged 63 was an employee of Howrah Jute Mill. The victim is a hernia<br />

patient. He has two sons and three daughters. For the past few years Mustafa is undergoing treatment<br />

under the supervision of Dr. Ranjit Babu of SSKM Hospital, Kolkata. On 11 th April 20<strong>05</strong> the victim was<br />

advised to be admitted in the hospital. But the next day he was found missing from the hospital. The<br />

relatives of the victim searched for him everywhere but in vain. Finally a missing diary was lodged in<br />

Bhavanipore Police Station dated 12 th April 20<strong>05</strong>, and a written complaint was also send to the SP.<br />

Despite such efforts, neither the hospital authorities nor the police took measures to find the victim. The<br />

issue was taken to the media and also published in few daily newspapers. Complaints were also send<br />

to the SHRC, DCP, Director of Health Services and the Intelligence Bureau but to no avail.<br />

Case Details:<br />

Victim Md. Mustaquim is a cart puller residing in Pilkhana. He was married to Sahanaz Khatoon and<br />

both have a three year old son named Md. Shakir. Mustaquim’s daughter died of an incurable disease<br />

in Bihar, where the family was previously settled. Hence the victim decided to shift to Kolkata, and came<br />

to this place on 15 th August 2007. On 12 th October 2007 Sahanaz Khatooz, W/o Mustaquim was<br />

offering her prayers on the occasion of Eid. Sakir was playing outside. After finishing her prayers she<br />

found her son missing. Though the couple searched him in all possible places they couldn’t find him.<br />

Finally they lodged a missing diary at Golabari Police Station the same day. A written complaint was also<br />

submitted to the CID of Kolkata. The police are not giving any assurance, and state that it was the<br />

responsibility of the parents to safeguard their child.<br />
