Case Details:<br />

Victim Krishna Debnath is a veterinary doctor residing in Sanjoy Palli. He is a well known social activist<br />

in the locality. The victim also maintained good relations with the village people. On 22<br />

nd January 2008<br />

the victim was arrested by four officials of Canning Police Station during night. The police barged into his<br />

house, breaking open the entrance gate and assaulted him in the presence of his family members.<br />

Krishna was also abused with filthy words. He was taken to the police station in their jeep. In all these<br />

circumstances, the police violated the D.K. Basu Judgment. On 12 th January 2008 the victim was<br />

produced before Alipore Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. It is reported that on 19 th January<br />

2008, the officials of Canning Police Station wanted to arrest three persons illegally. When Krishna<br />

Debnath protested against it, the officials left the place. Holding grudge in their mind, the officials of<br />

Canning Police Station illegally arrested the victim under a fabricated case. Later the victim managed to<br />

come out on bail.<br />

Victim Krishna Pathak, aged 39, is a resident of Loknath Pally. Her husband Harananda Pathak was<br />

found missing for the past 19 years and the victim resides along with her son Biswajit Pathak. She gave<br />

all her daughters into marriage. Krishna manages the family by working in a factory at Park Circus<br />

Darga Road. From 2000 the victim entered into an affair with her colleague named Patitpaban Ghosh.<br />

Both got married but the marriage was not registered. After marriage they stayed at Krishna’s house<br />

along with her son. During this period the victim also left her job. Patitpaban left for his house at Janai<br />

during October 2007 and didn’t return. On 4 th December 2007 Krishna received news that he was going<br />

to marry another lady. On 4 th January 2008 Patitpaban called the victim to meet him, and Krishna<br />

requested him to come home. Accordingly he came and spend the night with her. On 5 th January 2008<br />

few relatives of Patitpaban came to the house of the victim and abused her with filthy words. All of them<br />

tried to beat her but she was saved by her neighbours. The officials of Baruipur Police Station came to<br />
