Case Details:<br />

Victim Bisakha Mondal was born in Krishnanagar village of Nadia district. The family of the victim is very<br />

poor. She was married to a Bangladeshi young man at the age of 13. Bisakha gave birth to a son. Bulen,<br />

the husband of the victim deserted her and returned to Bangladesh, following which Bisakha admitted<br />

her son in an orphanage home. She got a job in the Block development Office, Uluberia, and dwelled in<br />

Singur staff quarters. She also brought back her son from the orphanage. On 8 th July 20<strong>05</strong> Kokhan<br />

Jana, a casual employee of BDO along with his wife assaulted the victim and her son. The victim<br />

received no help from the BDO and hence approached Singur Police Station. A dairy was registered<br />

and Bisakha was hospitalized. After a month the IO of the station threatened the victim to withdraw the<br />

complaint and stated that he wouldn’t take any action against Kokhan. Bisakha visited various government<br />

officials who put pressure upon the police station, but the officials advised the victim to withdraw the case.<br />

Till date the police have not taken any action against the perpetrator for they are influential people.<br />

Case Details:<br />

Victim Biswanath Ghorami, aged 46, is a farmer residing in Majlishpur village, and belongs to the<br />

Scheduled Caste Community. The victim owns 51 acres of land, in which he practiced horticulture with<br />

help of the Central Govt., having taken loan from a Gramin Bank. On 2 nd March 2008, Gokul Chakraborty,<br />

and few other people barged into the field of Biswanath with weapons and cut down all the trees and<br />

plants, ransacked the Green net house, and a room. Several species of plants were carried away.<br />

Around 21 to 25 labourers, who were working in the field were also assaulted by the miscreants and<br />

hailed with abuses. Though complaints were lodged at Falta Police Station, the police just registered the<br />

case and never arrested the perpetrators. Biswanath sustained a loss of Rs.5,00,000. Every time the<br />

victim returned from lodging a complaint at the police station, Gokul would come the next day with a<br />

group of men and spoil the vegetation. He send written complaints to several administrative authorities,<br />

particularly the SP, BDO, DIG, IG, DM but no fruitful result turned out. On 15 th March 2008 Gokul came<br />

with 100 supporters of the ruling CPI(M), barged into the land of the victim, abducted him and subjected<br />

Biswanath to brutal torture at Jagala village. Police arrived late at the place and rescued him from their<br />

hands. Though the victim was hospitalized, the perpetrators were not arrested. The family members of<br />

Biswajit approached the police, but the duty officer kept the complaint aside and till date they are not<br />

interested in taking any action against the perpetrators.<br />
