Case Details:<br />

Victim Biltu Sil, aged 34, is a resident of Jadabgarh (Kalibari). He was an auto driver, and dwelled along<br />

with his mother Minu Sil and elder brother Laltu Sil. Both Biltu’s mother and brother conspired against<br />

him after the death of his father, and got the auto registered in the name of Laltu. They also pressurized<br />

him to leave the house. Minu went to the court and declared that she has only one son, namely Laltu. On<br />

7 th January 2008 and 26 th March 2008 Biltu lodged two complaints at Kasba Police Station. After this the<br />

victim was facing continuous threats from his brother. Laltu repeatedly quarreled with him. Feeling<br />

insecured, Balti approached Kasba Police Station on 8 th April 2008, but the police refused to receive the<br />

complaint. On 12 th April 2008 Laltu assaulted the victim with a wooden stick, causing severe bleeding on<br />

his left hand and right palm. When the victim approached the police station to report on the same, the<br />

police just filed a general diary entry, rather than filing a criminal case. Thus the police have made this<br />

case of none effect.<br />

Case Details:<br />

Victims Binayak Mondal, aged 33 and Debojyoti Ghosh, aged 29 are journalists. On 11 th January 2008<br />

devastating fire engulfed the seventh and tenth floor of Nandaram Market. On 12 th January 2008 the<br />

victims were covering the news in representation of a media channel named NE TV. There were other<br />

media professional too. On 14 th January 2008 when all the media people were busy telecasting a live<br />

coverage, 10 to 15 people all of a sudden assaulted the victims mercilessly. The strangers tried to<br />

snatch the camera from Binay’s hands. They burned the OB Van that was stationed there. They<br />

dragged Binay from the place he was standing so as to set him apart. The police who were stationed<br />

there for security purposes were mere spectators. The perpetrators fled from the place as soon as DSP<br />

Ajay Ranade arrived. Two among them namely Dhritiman Thakkar and Riyaz Alam (a) Pappu were<br />

caught and later cases were filed against them on 14 th January 2008, at Burrabazar Police Station,<br />

according to the suggestion of the DSP. Following this the victims were taken to the hospital by the<br />

rescue team.<br />
