Case Details:
Victim Mabia Bibi, aged 25 is a resident of Seikhpara village, falling under the jurisdiction of Raninagar
Police Station. On 10 th July 2008 there was some controversy between the victim and her neighbour
Taju Bibi, W/o Rasul Seikh. Both husband and wife beat up Mabia brutally. On 11 th July 2008 the victim
went to Raninagar Police Station for lodging a complaint against her neighbours, but to her astonishment
the SI abused her with filthy words; and filed Mabia under a fabricated case. She was forcefully detained
in the lock up. Following this the victim was produced before the Sub Divisional Magistrate Court at
Domkal the same day, and thereafter released under bail. An eye witness affirms that the SI abused
Mabia with filthy words.

Victim Renuka Mondal, aged 40, is a resident of Chor Rajapur Paschim Colony, falling under the
jurisdiction of Raninagar Police Station. The victim is a widow. She was working in her field located at the
International Border on 10 th February 2008. Two BSF Constables approached Renuka for satisfying
their sexual urge. When the victim refused she was beaten with sticks and abused with filthy words. The
perpetrators tried to strip her naked and attempted to rape her. Hearing her shout Belu Rani, who was
working in the adjacent field rushed to find the officials so aggressive. She fled from the place in fear and
came back after some times. Then both the victims and few others went to the BSF Camp, and narrated
the incident to the OIC of Chor Moirosi BSF Camp. The officer called the accused in the presence of
everybody. All of a sudden he began to assault Renuka and Belu with sticks preventing them from
narrating the matter. The victims returned home without any justice. Renuka went to Raninagar Police
Station on 11 th February 2008, but the police just registered a general diary entry rather than filing a
criminal case. They neither initiated investigation nor took any action against the perpetrators till date.
Thus the women in the villages are becoming victims in the hands of a section of BSF, and the
administration is playing the role of mere spectators.
