iv) In Youth <strong>competition</strong>s, if no PWR list is published, the heats for Swimming will be<br />

composed based on the swimming times on the entry forms. For Swimming and<br />

Combined Event the <strong>rules</strong> for men and women apply in total.<br />

v) The LOC can include one or more of the other events if he wishes.<br />

<strong>1.</strong>4 CATEGORIES<br />

<strong>1.</strong>4.1 The official UIPM <strong>competition</strong>s in Modern Pentathlon are:<br />

Category A: Olympic Games, World Championships, Continental Championships, World<br />

Cups and World Cup Final, Champion of Champions, CISM World<br />

Championships.<br />

Category B: Regional Championships, World Masters Championships and Continental<br />

Master Championships and other World Ranking Competitions.<br />

Category C: Other international <strong>competition</strong>s and international Championships of any<br />

kind organised by UIPM member federations. The LOC must have invited<br />

the required number of national federations to take part.<br />

<strong>1.</strong>4.2 UIPM TD/NTO Control<br />

Category “A” and “B" <strong>competition</strong>s fall under the obligatory control of UIPM TDs/NTOs. At<br />

Category “C” <strong>competition</strong>s a TD/NTO is appointed if they meet the criteria of <strong>1.</strong>19.2 ii).<br />

<strong>1.</strong>4.3 Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games<br />

The <strong>rules</strong> for Category "A" <strong>competition</strong>s apply also to OG and YOG, as far as they do not<br />

conflict with the OG Qualification Rules that are agreed by UIPM EB and IOC Executive<br />

Committee after each OG and YOG for the following Olympiad.<br />

<strong>1.</strong>5 FORMATS<br />

<strong>1.</strong>5.1 Individual “One Day” Competitions<br />

As a rule, official UIPM Individual <strong>competition</strong>s are organised as one-day <strong>competition</strong>s. It is<br />

recommended that all events take place in one site and within walking distance of each<br />

other. Team classification may also be included, using the Modern Pentathlon points from<br />

the individual classification. Coaches must inform in the TM which athletes will form the<br />

team.<br />

<strong>1.</strong>5.2 Traditional Competitions<br />

i) Senior and Junior Category “B” and “C” <strong>competition</strong>s can be organised over one or two<br />

days or, in exceptional circumstances, as three-day <strong>competition</strong>s if two days are<br />

required for the Riding.<br />

ii) Youth <strong>competition</strong>s that include four or all five disciplines are organised over two days.<br />

iii) Youth <strong>competition</strong>s that include two or three of the five disciplines are organised in one<br />

day.<br />

iv) Master <strong>competition</strong>s normally take place over two days <strong>competition</strong>.<br />

<strong>1.</strong>5.3 Relay Competitions<br />

The Relay <strong>competition</strong>s must take place as a one-day <strong>competition</strong>. In Category “A”<br />

<strong>competition</strong>s, Men and Women Relay with 3 or 2 athletes take place over one day and the<br />

Mixed Relay over a second day. If the number of engaged teams is too large, the UIPM EB<br />

can approve a third day of <strong>competition</strong>.<br />

<strong>1.</strong>5.4 New models and formats of <strong>competition</strong>s that may be used in test events during the next<br />

Olympic period (<strong>2013</strong>-2016) are detailed in an EB decision communicated in a particular<br />

separated document.<br />
