1 GENERAL ASPECTS<br />

PART A THE MODERN PENTATHLON SPORT<br />

<strong>1.</strong>1 SPHERE OF APPLICATION<br />

The following <strong>rules</strong> must be applied at all official UIPM <strong>competition</strong>s of Category “A” and “B”,<br />

and are recommended for application as far as reasonable and feasible in Category “C”<br />

<strong>competition</strong>s.<br />

<strong>1.</strong>2 AGE GROUPS<br />

When not explicitly stated otherwise, these <strong>rules</strong> relate to all age groups, which are senior,<br />

junior, youth and masters, both for men and women.<br />

<strong>1.</strong>2.1 The age groups are as follows:<br />

10 and younger - Under 11 (YE)<br />

11 – 12 years- Under 13 (YD)<br />

13 – 14 years - Under 15 (YC)<br />

15 – 16 years - Under 17 (YB)<br />

17 – 18 years - Under 19 (YA)<br />

19 – 21 years - Juniors<br />

22 and over - Seniors<br />

30 – 39 years - Masters 30- 39<br />

40 – 49 years - Masters 40-49<br />

50-59 years - Masters 50-59<br />

60 - 69 years - Masters 60 – 69<br />

70-79 years - Masters 70-79<br />

80 and over - Masters 80+<br />

<strong>1.</strong>2.2 Calculation of the age<br />

i) The age of the pentathlete will be counted by subtracting the year of birth from the year<br />

of the <strong>competition</strong>. Months and days will not be taken into account.<br />

ii) Except for Masters <strong>competition</strong>s, a pentathlete has the right to compete in the age<br />

group immediately higher than his age group. With permission from the competent<br />

national body, a pentathlete can compete in any higher age group.<br />

<strong>1.</strong>3 THE EVENTS<br />

<strong>1.</strong>3.1 The five disciplines of a Modern Pentathlon <strong>competition</strong> are organized in four events:<br />

Fencing, Swimming, Riding, Combined (Shooting and Running):<br />

RELAY<br />

“Poule unique”<br />

FENCING<br />

Electric epée<br />

Team member No:<br />

"X"1 versus "Y"1<br />

“X"2 versus "Y"2<br />

"X"3 versus "Y"3<br />

Each bout in one decisive hit in 1 minute – no hit = double defeat<br />

Number of bouts depending on the number of athletes/teams<br />
