For the Mixed Relay, in Fencing, Swimming and Combined Event, the Women compete<br />

first, then the Men; in Riding, it is by the coach’s decision and must be informed at the<br />

Technical Meeting.<br />

<strong>1.</strong>17.2 Fencing<br />

i) For each group, the draw will be made by the TD before the TM for Piste No 1 by<br />

drawing one number. That team will be then Team <strong>1.</strong> The next team in English<br />

alphabetical order will become Team 2, etc. The teams will be placed on the pistes as<br />

shown in Appendix 2C. If a nation has 2 or more teams taking part in a <strong>competition</strong> or<br />

group, they will meet in the first rounds of the Fencing event according to Appendix 2C.<br />

ii) The order of the athletes inside the fencing team of a nation is decided by their coach in<br />

the TM.<br />

<strong>1.</strong>17.3 Swimming<br />

i) The pentathletes or teams will be placed according to their PWR swimming time as<br />

detailed in Article 3.3.1 iv).<br />

ii) In Swimming Relay <strong>competition</strong>s the start lists will be arranged according to the<br />

swimming times: first by the previous Individual <strong>competition</strong>; if no individual <strong>competition</strong>,<br />

by swimming times from PWR; if the pentathlete is not in the PWR, they will start in the<br />

first heat.<br />

iii) In Youth <strong>competition</strong>s, and because no PWR list is published, the heats for Swimming<br />

will be composed based on the swimming times on the entry forms.<br />

<strong>1.</strong>17.4 Riding<br />

i) In Riding <strong>competition</strong>s pentathletes or teams will start in reverse order: in one round<br />

<strong>competition</strong> the best-placed pentathlete or team goes last.<br />

ii) If there are two rounds in the Riding, the top 50% of the pentathletes or teams after the<br />

previous events will start on the second round.<br />

iii) If there are an odd number of pentathletes or teams there will be one more pentathlete<br />

or team in the first round.<br />

<strong>1.</strong>17.5 Combined Event<br />

i) In the Combined Event in Individual <strong>competition</strong>s the pentathletes start in accordance<br />

with their handicap time. In Relay <strong>competition</strong>s the first runner of each team starts<br />

according to the handicap system. The second and third runner of a team starts once<br />

the preceding runner has touched him on any part of his body within the hand-over<br />

zone.<br />

ii) In the Combined Event with pack start (Youth <strong>competition</strong>s with or without Shooting), all<br />

pentathletes (maximum 20 athletes) start together at the sound of a gun or similar<br />

signal. The pentathlete or team in the lead must start from the best position. The next<br />

pentathletes must be placed according to their ranking.<br />

<strong>1.</strong>17.6 Publication of the Start Lists<br />

The LOC must publish the start lists for the fencing and swimming events at the TM. Prior to<br />

the start of the riding event all participating NFs must be provided with the start list for riding<br />

by the LOC. The start list for the Combined Event must be available 30 minutes before the<br />

scheduled departure for the first pentathlete or team. Media, VIP and the public must also<br />

receive the start lists.<br />
