POST: TRAINER: EMPLOYING TRUST: TRAINING BASE: Old Age Psychiatry Dr Steven Naylor Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Trengweath, Redruth SW PENINSULA <strong>DEANERY</strong> SCHOOL OF PSYCHIATRY Rotational SpR/ST4-6 Training Scheme (GA & OA Psychiatry) The older person's psychiatric service for Redruth and the Lizard provide care for the over 65 year olds with functional or organic disorders and under 65s with dementia. There is a memory clinic and liaison psychiatric services provided to Helston Community Hospital (GP run hospital) and Camborne/Redruth Community Hospital (eldercare medicine). There are two inpatient wards. Cove Ward in Redruth is an organic assessment unit with 20 beds. Functional patients are admitted to the functional adult psychiatric ward (Bay Ward) in Redruth. For functional psychiatric outpatients there is an acute Home Treatment Team who will work with patients intensively for short periods of time. The specialist trainee will be a member of the community mental health team and be given a role matching his/her seniority and experience. When trainees have appropriate competency they may medically manage a proportion of the catchment area (under supervision) to enable them to experience a full range of the day to day issues arising for senior psychiatrists. Specialist interest experience can be arranged with the old age psychiatric liaison service at Treliske, ECT at Bodmin, and Parkinson's Disease Clinics in Redruth. There are opportunities to teach junior doctors, nursing staff and medical students. There are grand rounds/journal clubs held at the weekly Wednesday morning teaching. TIMETABLES: Trainer A.M. P.M.
