2. Taster in Anaesthetics<br />

Brief overview of placement:<br />

Attending a variety of theatre lists accompanying the consultant anaesthetist covering that list. These lists include general surgery, vascular,<br />

thoracics, ENT, Maxilo-facial, urology, gynaecology, obstetrics, plastics, orthopaedics and ophthalmology depending on the day of the attachment,<br />

the nature of the patients listed and the requirements of the department anaesthetic trainees at the time.<br />

The list will include preoperative and postoperative assessment of patients and the concepts of anaesthesia, taught informally on a one to one basis.<br />

There will also be the opportunity to attend acute pain rounds with the pain team nurses and chronic pain clinic with the chronic pain specialist<br />

consultant anaesthetists.<br />

Discussion regarding training and a career in anaesthetics will be with the college tutor or with any of the department Educational Supervisors.

Brief overview of placement:<br />

If can only attend for 1 or 2 days, Tuesday & Thursday are the best as you will meet the whole team and the consultants will have time to talk to you<br />

in detail about a career in rheumatology. Try to come to (all or part) of a general clinic and a specialist clinic during your Taster session.<br />

There are daily day-case patients attending for infusions of biologic drugs and osteoporosis medications on the day case unit.<br />
