4.2 Other Postgraduate medical education courses are held at Barnstaple e.g. Daily Departmental Teaching sessions Weekly Clinical Meetings Weekly Morning Report, Journal Club, Grand Round Monthly Morbidity and Mortality Meetings Various Certificated Advanced Life Support Courses including ALS Further details regarding study leave or medical education courses may be obtained from the Medical Education Centre. 5.0 MAIN CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 5.1 The post is subject to the Terms and Conditions of Service of Hospital Medical and Dental Staff and the Northern Devon Healthcare Trust’s local agreements, as amended from time to time. 5.2 The appointment is full time, with four months being spent within each specialty. 5.3 The current basic salary scale is £22,412 - £25,209 pa plus the appropriate banding supplement, where applicable. Most posts attract banding in two of three rotations. 5.4 Accommodation: Residential accommodation may be available on site. 5.5 The following accommodation described below is provided, subject to signature of a legally binding Tenancy Agreement. Single accommodation: Furnished - comprise single bed / sitting room with a shared bathroom, kitchen and common room, within the hospital grounds. (subject to availability and subject to the appropriate charges) Married accommodation: (subject to availability and subject to the appropriate charges): Furnished - comprises 2/3 bedrooms (as required and subject to availability). Accommodation Fees: Information on current fees is available from the Accommodation Supervisor or Medical Personnel Office at the North Devon District Hospital. 6.0 CONDITIONS OF APPOINTMENT 6.1 The post is subject to The Terms and Conditions of Service of Hospital Medical and Dental Staff, and Northern Devon Healthcare Trust’s local agreements, as modified from time to time. Current copies of these Terms and Conditions may be requested from the Medical Personnel Office. Your attention is drawn particularly to the following extracts: 6.2 Registration: All Hospital Medical and Dental Staff are required to be appropriately registered with the General Medical Council to practice in this country. Such staff must ensure that registration is maintained for the duration of the appointment. Overseas graduates should note that full registration does not necessarily preclude the need for a period of Clinical Attachment and assessment. 2
Qualified practitioners are responsible for ensuring that your professional registration and Licence to Practice is maintained. Failure to maintain registration will result in reassignment to a junior role which does not require professional registration, until evidence is provided. Where evidence is not forthcoming a disciplinary investigation will be undertaken which could result in your employment being terminated. You are required to produce evidence of your professional registration on request. You are responsible for ensuring that you abide by the Codes of Professional Practice relevant to your role. Failure to do so will result in formal investigation and action under the Trust's Disciplinary or Capability 6.3 All Hospital Medical and Dental Staff are required to have the appropriate Home Office Visa status if not a member of the EEA which must be updated / maintained for the duration of the appointment. 6.4 Medical Examination: All initial appointments to the NHS are made subject to satisfactory medical evidence being produced. The employing Trust reserves the right to make any offer of appointment subject to the receipt of such medical evidence including a medical examination where this is deemed necessary. In the interest of all staff and patients, it may be desirable and necessary for periodic medical checks to be undertaken in addition to those on initial appointment. 6.5 The Trust is committed to providing safe and effective care for patients to ensure there is an agreed procedure for medical staff that enables them to report quickly and confidentially concerns about conduct, performance or health of medical colleagues (Chief Medical Officer, December 1996). All medical staff practising in the Trust should ensure that they are familiar with the procedure and apply it. 6.6 References: All staff appointments are made subject to the receipt of satisfactory references. 7.0 HEALTH & SAFETY 7.1 In carrying out their duties, the employee is required to take reasonable care to avoid injury or accident which may be caused by work.
