3 These sections apply only to trainees who entered the anaesthesia CCT programme in ST year 2 having first competed Acute
Care Common Stem (ACCS) training. ACCS training requires trainees to do one year of anaesthesia and ICM training of which a
minimum of three months must be spent in each specialty. This means that exceptionally a trainee might complete ST year 2 of the
anaesthesia programme having done only 15 months of anaesthesia and nine months of ICM training (three months basic and six
months intermediate level). The RCoA therefore requires that in such circumstances the trainee should complete the missing basic
level competences in ST year 3 before starting intermediate level training and that the additional ICM competences acquired during
ACCS training should be credited towards ICM intermediate level training.
4 This part of the certificate should be signed off as and when outstanding units are completed during SpR year 3.
