• All agencies should have instituti<strong>on</strong>al mechanisms to promote the<br />

empowerment <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> women in their field <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> work. Campaigns must be launched<br />

to introduce the United Nati<strong>on</strong>s Beijing Platform for Acti<strong>on</strong>, the Beijing +5<br />

Platform for Acti<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> United Nati<strong>on</strong>s Resoluti<strong>on</strong> 1325 in the area <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

c<strong>on</strong>cern;<br />

• United Nati<strong>on</strong>s organizati<strong>on</strong>s <strong>and</strong> agencies need to improve their cooperati<strong>on</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> sharing <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> informati<strong>on</strong> through regular meetings. <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g>y should develop<br />

programmes together <strong>and</strong> use the available expertise as effectively as<br />

possible; <strong>and</strong><br />

• All agencies must involve local women in all fields <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> their work, <strong>and</strong><br />

investigate <strong>and</strong> explore their needs, which entails listening to the women <strong>and</strong><br />

supporting their dem<strong>and</strong>s for equal representati<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> participati<strong>on</strong> in<br />

decisi<strong>on</strong>-making as they shape the future <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> their own country.<br />

• <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> media can <strong>and</strong> must be used in a successful way in sex educati<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> to<br />

inform people about reproductive health <strong>and</strong> reproductive rights;<br />

• It is necessary to c<strong>on</strong>centrate <strong>on</strong> local politicians, both men <strong>and</strong> women, to<br />

make them aware <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the importance <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> women’s reproductive health <strong>and</strong><br />

reproductive rights <strong>and</strong> to develop legislati<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> policies supporting the<br />

rights <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> women. In particular, it is the politicians who make decisi<strong>on</strong>s <strong>on</strong><br />

building up health-care services for women, young people <strong>and</strong> sex educati<strong>on</strong><br />

in schools;<br />

• It is important to raise awareness <strong>and</strong> build partnerships am<strong>on</strong>g local<br />

women’s NGOs <strong>on</strong> the reproductive rights <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> women for their support in<br />

running campaigns, <strong>and</strong> to educate women <strong>and</strong> young people. Seminars,<br />

workshops <strong>and</strong> training sessi<strong>on</strong>s should be organized in cooperati<strong>on</strong> with<br />

local <strong>and</strong> internati<strong>on</strong>al NGOs;<br />

• It is necessary to initiate discussi<strong>on</strong>s am<strong>on</strong>g the public about the issues <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

reproductive health with c<strong>on</strong>ferences, workshops <strong>and</strong> seminars, bearing in<br />

mind how sensitive these issues are in most societies;<br />

• More support is needed from d<strong>on</strong>ors to develop the above-menti<strong>on</strong>ed<br />

programmes. Better reproductive health for women is crucial in fighting<br />
