Parents, I can’t believe it is time to start planning for summer again. It seems like just a few weeks ago we were piling on 

buses to Dayspring and dodging dodgeballs in the gym. We are excited to offer a host of new camps this summer—along 

with your favorites from the past. Some of our new opportunities include: gymnastics and soccer for preschoolers, 2-day 

mini-camps around the 4th of July, and even guitar camps for those who love music. We look forward to serving your kids 

this summer and getting to know your family. Thank you for allowing Park Cities Baptist Church to be a part of your summer

If you have questions about sports and activities camps or do not have internet access, please

Campers must be the correct age by August 31, 2012 or completed the correct grade by June 2012. 

Cancellation Policy: Refunds minus a $30.00 fee are available with notice at least one week prior to 

the camp start date. Within a week of camp no refunds will be issued. 

ART CAMPS 

Drawing and Painting 

This camp focuses on two-dimensional art activities in pencil, 

tempera and acrylic on canvas. All supplies are included. 

Clay and Paper Mache 

In this camp, kids will learn and practice three-dimensional art activities 

using polymer clay and paper mache sculpture. All supplies are included. 

Weaving Camp 

Students will explore the history and style of the weavings created by the 

Navajo people. Young artists will desing and create a weaving of their 

won to be displayed as a wall hanging or pillow.

Hoopsters Basketball Camp 

Hoopsters is meant specifically for young girls and boys who love 

basketball and want to learn and improve basic skills and fundamentals. 

This camp will focus on improving skills such as dribbling, passing and 

shooting through drills, scrimmage games and contests. T-shirt included.

CAMP DAYSPRING 

Are you ready to get out of town and have a week to remember at Camp 

Dayspring? Activities Include: archery, swimming, B-B’s, Bible study, 

singing, crafts, sno-cones, Yo-Yo Man, sports, team games, inflatables 

and more. Campers may request ONE friend to be in their group for the 

week. A certified lifeguard will be on site each day. Lunch and drink will 

be provided each day. T-shirt included. 

Age: Completed K – 4th Grade 

Cost: $215 

Location: Rock Creek Ranch, McKinney

What to Bring: Bag/backpack with swim suit and towel, water bottle 

and snacks (optional). Lunch w/ drink is provided.

Transportation: Campers depart PCBC by bus at 9:00 am — don’t be 

late — and return at 3:45 pm 

Drop-off and Pick-up: Park in the parking garage of PCBC and go to the 

1st floor, where your child will join his/her group in the Commons Area of 

the CLC — kids will return here for pick-up in the afternoon.

CAMP “GO” 

This camp is all about fun in the Metroplex. Each day we will GO 

somewhere new and also have tons of fun at PCBC. Planned 

destinations include: Bowling, Ice Skating, Miniature Golf, Roller Skating 

and the Dallas Cowboys Stadium. There will also be a variety of other 

fun stuff each day including instruction from “Yo-Yo Man”, gameroom 

games, gym activities and more. T-shirt included. 


Cost: $200 (includes all activities and lunch each day)

CROSS CHEER CHEERLEADING CAMPS 

Each Cross Cheer cheerleading camp provides a chance for girls 

to learn cheerleading in a fun, Christ-centered atmosphere. Camp 

activities include cheers, games, stunts, motions, jumps, dance 

and tumbling. Tuition includes t-shirt and craft. Look forward to a 

performance on Fridays at 3:30pm! 

Age: 5 - completed 4th grade (girls split into age/grade related buddy 

teams) Campers must be correct age by August 31, 2012

COOKING CAMPS 

#1 Desserts & Other Delights (July 30-August 3) 

Children will increase their culinary skills as they learn to make a variety 

of desserts from homemade cupcakes to tarts to ice cream, as well as 

homemade breads and other savory delights. Each day will end with 

sampling the day’s treats. At the end of the week, campers will come 

home with a cookbook as well as an apron which they designed. 

#2 Snack Attack (August 6-10) 

Children will enjoy a week of creating creative and delicious snacks – 

both sweet and savory. All are perfect for lunch boxes, after school snacks 

and night time treats. The food will be prepared and enjoyed daily; 

celebrating the foods God has given us. At the end of the week, campers 

will come home with a cookbook as well as an apron which they designed. 

#3 Holidays in the Summer (August 13-17) 

Children will enjoy a week of creating creative and delicious holiday 

themed meals. All are perfect for lunch treats, after school snacks 

and fun dinners. Each day will focus on one holiday – not necessarily 

typical holiday dishes. Food will be prepared and enjoyed daily. Through 

the week, campers will learn 15 new recipes. At the end of the week, 

campers will come home with a cookbook as well as an apron which 

they designed.

Crafts, Cooking & Crazy Fun - Serendipity Camp 

Your child will spend a week being creative and crafty. Lessons in 

weaving, sewing, crafting and design will give your camper a variety of 

fun items to bring home. A cooking element will also be included. This 

camp will allow your child to express themselves as individuals uniquely 

designed by God.

DANCING ANGELS DANCE CAMPS 

From ballet to hip-hop campers will learn praise-worthy moves that are 

both fun and honoring to God. Each week offers an optional “extra” 

hour devoted to a special Tea Party that every little girl will love. Camps 

include: a specialty theme, daily snack, t-shirt and camp recital held 

Thursday, the last day of camp.

Do you have a budding musician in your home? In this camp the basics 

of playing the guitar will be learned along with techniques needed to 

enjoy this lifelong skill. Each camper will need to bring an acoustic 

guitar (preferably steel string) and a pick.

GYMNASTIC CAMPS 

Your preschooler will have fun learning the FUNdamentals of gymnastics 

with bars, beam, vault, springboard, trampoline, tumbling and more! 

Camp will also include Bible stories, crafts, and movement to music, 

games and other activities. On the final day of camp parents are invited 

to view an exhibition and see your camper presented with a medal. 

Campers are to wear shorts, shirts and flip flops. Bring a snack and 

drink daily.

CAMP DIRECTORS 

Larry Barbour is the physical education teacher at 

Carlisle Elementary in Plano ISD, where he was selected 

teacher of year in 1999. Coach Barbour has 20 years 

of middle and high school coaching experience. Larry 

earned both a B.S. and M.S. degrees in health and 

physical education from Baylor University. He is a member and deacon at 

Prestonwood Baptist Church. He has been involved in leading basketball 

camps and leagues at PCBC for the past 14 years along with the PCBC 

Upward Basketball program for the past 6 years. 

Damon Berry is the Minister of Sports Outreach at Park Cities 

Baptist. He has over 10 years of experience working with children 

and youth both as a coach, camp director and teacher. Damon is 

a graduate of Hardin-Simmons University where he was a member 

of the tennis team. Damon is married and has two daughters. 

Brittany Cavender is a former SMU cheerleader & Jr. 

Mustangs coach, National Cheerleaders Association camp 

instructor, Spirit Event Coordinators judge, and nationally 

ranked Cheer Athletics athlete. She hails from Rockwall, 

TX, and graduated from SMU with a BBA in marketing. She 

began Cross Cheer in 2005 and has been reaching little hearts in the 

Dallas area through cheerleading since. Brittany and her husband Kyle 

are members of PCBC. 

Cindy Farmer has a background in elementary 

education and has been on the Childhood staff at Park Cities 

Baptist Church for the past 10 years. She loves to cook and 

share her passion for cooking with others. Cindy is married 

and has three children. 

Kristie Sue James has a love for God, kids and 

gymnastics. She has been blessed with 3 girls, Morgan 

16, Shelby 13, and Ashley 4. Her church home is The 

Heights Baptist Church where she is active in Bible Studies, 

volunteering and working with children and previously 

coached Upward Cheerleading. Kristie grew up training at Flippers 

Gymnastics and competed from 8 until 18 years of age. Today, she subs 

at University of Gymnastics and shares in a mobile preschool gymnastics 

business teaching the fundamentals of gymnastics. 

Cole Johnson is the assistant basketball coach at 

Naaman Forest High School in Garland. Coach Johnson is a 

graduate of Greenville College in Illinois where he earned a 

B.S. in education and was a member of the basketball team. 

Cole has been coaching PCBC Basketball Camps for the past 

12 years along with working as Camp “Go” Director. Cole, his 

wife and 3 sons attend Denton Bible Church. 

Marilyn and Allie Mootz are college-aged-sisters 

and PCBC members who enjoy spending time baking, cooking, 

creating, crafting and designing. They are excited about teaching 

and sharing their love of cooking and crafting with others as well 

as allowing your children to express their inner creativity. 

Renee Morales is a graduate of Baylor University. She 

has taught Pre-K Sunday School and VBS at PCBC for several 

years. Renee also spent many years as a camp counselor at 

Camp Dayspring and as Camp Director of Kids Kamp. Renee 

is married and keeps busy raising her two daughters while 

pursuing her hobby of baking and decorating cakes. 

Tom O’Brien, PCBC member for the last 20 years, 

helped launch the Upward Basketball program at PCBC and 

has also served as a coach, commissioner and referee. 

Tom has been a counselor at Fish Camp, Camp Dayspring, 

volunteered with Royal Ambassadors and currently serves 

as an 8th grade Sunday School Teacher at PCBC where his wife and two 

children are actively involved also. 

Tammy Owens founded Dancing Angels in 2000, a 

unique dance program that reaches the hearts and spirits 

of young girls while introducing them to the technique of 

dance. With a sweet and nurturing teaching style, the DA 

staff weaves the love of Christ into every aspect of class, 

inspiring students to dance for the glory of God. Tammy has held Dancing

Jennifer Swayze Riordan received a BFA in 

Studio Art with All-Level Teaching Certification from Baylor 

University and her Masters degree in Art Education from 

Texas Women’s University. Jennifer has served as the Art 

Specialist to both Bradfield and University Park Elementary 

campuses and has instructed after-school and summer Art Camps at Park 

Cities Baptist since 2003. Jennifer is a working artist, painting murals and 

creating personalized art work for children at www.alphazoo.com. Jennifer 

and her husband Mike have a son named Jack, born in May of 2011. 

Brian Simpson, director of Triumph Sports is a coach/ 

teacher in the Northwest ISD at Byron Nelson High School 

in Trophy Club. He earned two degrees in marketing and 

speech from Point Loma Nazarene University in California. 

Brian has worked in sports marketing for the San Diego 

Padres and the San Diego Chargers. Coach Simpson has over 17 years 

experience in sports camp administration and has worked with PCBC 

camps for the past 7 years. 

Betty Sue Welch has taught and coached tennis for 

over 40 years at the local, state, collegiate, national and 

international levels. In 1999 she was inducted into the Texas 

Tennis Hall of Fame and in 2009 she was inducted to the 

Texas Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame. Coach Welch earned a 

BA from SMU in PE and speech, and a M Ed from UT Austin in PE and 

Special Ed. She is an USPTA tennis professional, a USTA umpire and referee, 

and the State Sport Director for tennis for Special Olympics for 10 years. 

Bruce Wilder is a self-taught musician and has been 

performing in the Dallas area for several years. He has 

opened for Pierce Pettis, played Autumn Blooms and Dallas 

Blooms at the Dallas Arboretum and enjoys playing twice 

weekly at Potbelly Sandwich Works (Uptown Dallas). Bruce 

has 23 years of high school teaching experience and several years of 

private guitar teaching experience. He, his wife and two daughters have 

been members at Park Cities Baptist Church since Easter of 2009. 

Roddy Willis, PhD is the Associate Minister of Sports 

Outreach and Associate Minister of Preteens at Park 

Cities Baptist Church. Dr Willis graduated from Cedarville 

University with a BA in Biblical Studies. He earned a ThM 

from Dallas Theological Seminary and has completed a PhD 

in Higher Education & Administration in a collaborative doctoral program 

at University of North Texas and Dallas Theological Seminary. He has 10+ 

years of ministry experience and loves to see kids and families grow closer 

to Jesus. Roddy is married and has one son.
