Phoenix College Alumni
The Diane H. Thomas Scholarship for Phoenix College Alumni is a $10,000 scholarship for students
planning to transfer to a four-year college or university. During her long and distinguished career, Ms.
Thomas worked as a commercial photographer, television personality, small business owner, arbiter for
the Better Business Bureau, author, freelance writer, photojournalist and college instructor. She authored
and published nearly a dozen books and wrote many more articles which appeared in publications
ranging from The New York Times, McCall's and Better Homes & Gardens to Real West and Old Cars
magazine. Her legacy includes endowed scholarships at Phoenix College and Glendale Community
College.
Scholarship Criteria:
Graduating Phoenix College student (May 2012)
Minimum GPA: 3.0
Demonstrates financial need through details provided in the application
Preparing to transfer to a four-year college or university
Application instructions:
1. Complete, sign, and date the last page of this application. Please print or type your application
and answer every section. Incomplete applications will not be considered. If something does not
apply to you, respond by indicating “N/A.” This document may be duplicated.
2. Attach the following items:
Personal statement, no more than two pages, typed. Describe your financial need and how the
scholarship will help you meet college expenses, your academic and career goals, and your
extracurricular activities (both on and off campus).
(1) copy of your unofficial transcripts
Include a 500-700 word essay based on the following prompt: Statistics show that the surest way
for anyone to land a job in their chosen field is to finish college and earn a degree or certificate.

3. Deadline to submit application: Friday, April 27, 2012 by 5 p.m. Late applications will not
