They provide students with the knowledge and skills required for collegelevel work in reading, English, and mathematics. Placement testing determines which developmental classes are required. LEARNING COMMUNITIES Learning communities integrate two or more courses in ways that meaningfully connect the content of each course. They also connect students and faculty in a collaborative effort of teaching and learning that may extend beyond the classroom walls. Methodologies used in learning communities may include experiential learning, collaboration, active participation, critical thinking, thematic or problem-solving projects, and reflection. OPEN ENTRY/EXIT (OEE) Self-paced computer classes offer students the ability to set a flexible schedule. During the hours the Computer Commons is open. Students may enroll up to April 1 in spring or up to November 1 in the fall terms. Classes are expected to be completed in the same term in which they are started. Most Open Entry/Exit classes are listed under Business and Personal Computers (BPC), Computer Information Systems (CIS), and Office Automation System and are designated OEE. HONORS The Phoenix College Honors Program provides opportunities for bright and talented students to make the most of their higher education through access to small classes, outstanding facility, campus involvement, community service, travel, and interaction with other like-minded students. We promote intellectual, social, and personal development to help prepare you for an increasingly complex world. Honors classes are listed under appropriate course sections with an Honors Program note. Registration for all Honors classes takes place in the Honors Office located B263 across from the Success Center. For more information about the Honors Program, qualifications to join, or to enroll in Honors classes visit the Honors Program Office in the B263, call 602.285.7305, or visit the program web site at www. phoenixcollege.edu/honors. ONLINE/BLACKBOARD (ONLINE BB) Class content is delivered entirely online (with the possible exception of an orientation or proctored exams on campus) and is accessed through Blackboard—our elearning platform. Students should have independent access to the Internet. Refer to Blackboard Access Instructions on the next page. HYBRID/BLACKBOARD (HYBRID BB) Classes offered in a Hybrid format have a portion of the class taught face-to-face in a traditional classroom setting, while the rest of the class takes place online. The mixed format offers the best of both worlds: an effective combination of face-to-face classroom meetings and the opportunity to work independently. A: Blackboard is the name of the elearning platform used by the college. BLACKBOARD ACCESS INSTRUCTIONS Check your schedule for the start date of your online or hybrid courses. Blackboard courses are listed with the room# as ONLINE BB or HYBRID BB. If you are taking a hybrid class, please contact your instructor to find out the in-class meeting dates. The course information shown in the shaded box refers to evening sessions.
