Head Coach
Land Jacobsen
Head Coach
Land Jacobsen begins his4thseason
as the Head Coach of the Phoenix
College Football Team. Coach
Jacobsen has 34 years of coaching
experience with this being his 29th
year at the college level. This begins
his 14th season as a head coach.
The 2009 season produced a 4-6 record that was disappointing
in terms of wins and losses, but 19 players transferred to 4 year
universities on a football scholarship, which brings a total of 40
players, who have moved on in the past two years. This is the
highest number of transfers in Arizona. Two football players this
past season were names Academic All-Americans.
In 2008 Coach Jacobsen led the Bears to a spectular turnaroud
by finishing 12th in the country. Phoenix College enjoyed their
first winning season in 20 years and their first bowl appearance
in 22 years. Coach Jacobsen and hsi staff helped place 20
players with scholarships to the four year level, the most of any
football team in Arizona.
Coach Jacobsen and his staff were respsonsible for producing
the Region and WSFL Offensive Player of the Year, Robert
Benjamin. He threw for over 2500 yards and 25 TD’s with only
6 Ints, and Benjamin is projected to start at the University of
Wyoming this fall. The PC staff also developed Santonio Jones
a CB from Virginia, who led the nation in interceptions with 9,
and was named to the Region and WSFL all conference teams.
Before being named the Head Coach at Phoenix College, Land
severed as the head coach at Scottsdale CC from 1993 to 1995
where he produced 2 First Team All Americans, 2 Second Team
All Americans, and most importantly 2 Academic First Team
All Americans. He has sent 5 players to the NFL, most notably
quarterback, Joe Germaine, who was the 1997 Rose Bowl MVP
from Ohio State University and a member of the 2000 Sugar
Bowl Champion St. Louis Rams. Also Tim Rattay, was an 8 year
veteran of the NFL (San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Bucs, and
Arizona Cardinals). He is starting his second year with the Las
Vegas franchise, the current champion of the UFL.
Coach Jacobsen has coached the secondary at Montana
State University, the University of Utah, and BYU. He was the
defensive coordinator at New Mexico State University and
Idaho State University. Coach Jacobsen was also the Head
Coach at Western New Mexico University and in the Arena 2
League with the Wichita Stealth.
Coach Jacobsen has compiled the best coaching staff in
Arizona and has expectations for his squad. The team will be
wide open and explosive on offense, aggressive and attacking
on defense, and very solid in the kicking game.
Coach Jacobsen is excited about the Phoenix College
opportunity and believes the college President, Vice President,
and Athletic Director are supportive of his program.
The Phoenix College Football Program will have a strong
academic core, and be based on Discipline, Hard Work, and
Pride!
