PRESIDENTS WELCOME
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Phoenix College, in
its eighty-fifth year
of service, is proud
of its long tradition
of student success
in the classroom
and on the field. We
are confident that
legacy will continue
in 2005-2006.
We are very proud
of our student athletes. Each of them
participates in the Student Athlete Scholastic
Success Program (SASS), with the coaches,
administration and faculty as their partners
in reaching their academic goals.
Last year’s student athletes boasted an
average GPA of 3.1, proving that they took
their studies as seriously as they did their
sport. This achievement led to Phoenix
College being ranked first in the nation in
Academic All-Americans by NJCAA.
Enjoy yourself at this event, and come back
to support each of our men’s and women’s
sports teams.
2005 FOOTBALL MEDIA GUIDE 1

RECRUITING PHILOSOPHY…
2005 FOOTBALL MEDIA GUIDE 3

PHOENIX COLLEGE:
RETURNING TO AND STARTING NEW TRADITIONS
THE FULL MEDAL HELMET
A football player is more than a man who happens to play football. The greatest thing
about the game of football is it reveals who you are as a person. Players, coaches and
fans can watch how a man goes about playing the game, how he carries himself, what
his demeanor is like, the kind of effort he gives and make certain assumptions about that
player as a person. Make no mistake, this game will reveal your strengths and expose
your weaknesses - as a man and a player.
We believe the highest honor you can receive as a player is to be named a "Football
Player." Our definition of a Football player is a young man who represents this program
in a positive way on campus and off; a young man that knows he's a student, goes to
class and works to get good grades. Finally, a young man that understands the difficulties
inherent to playing the game of football but plays the game the way it should be played:
like the dogs of hades are chasing him!
When we have a player that meets our criteria he is named, in front of his peers, a
Football player. When this happens that player's name is recorded, plaques will be made
and hung on the Barracks wall and he receives a special honor as well: he's given the
Phoenix College Full Medal Helmet.
Our helmets are old school through-and-through. The gold stripe splits the navy blue field
in two, symbolic of your responsibility as a STUDENT and a FOOTBALL PLAYER. We wear
numbers on the right side of our helmets, identifying you as a member of our team, the
football side of being on our team. When a player is named and given the honor of Full
Medal Helmet, that player receives a number on both sides of his helmet - left and right.
The Full Medal Helmet.
The criteria for receiving this honor, as shown above, is as follows:
1) A player that represents this program in a positive way on campus and off.
2) A player that knows he's a student and attends class and works hard in school.
3) A player that plays the game the way it's supposed to be played: with all that
he has, regardless of his talent level.
Being a Full Medal Helmet player for Phoenix College is not only the highest honor you
may receive but it will also make you a target! Opposing teams will come to know what
the two-sided number on the helmet means and may single you out as a player. Do you
have what it takes to wear the Full Medal Helmet?
