The Janet Logan Daily Foundation established this scholarship to reward students who may not necessarily excel in school, but who continually demonstrate strength in responsibility, motivation and character; b. This $10,000 award is named in honor and memory of Janet Logan Daily, a devoted teacher who served in New Jersey schools for over 30 years. Janet was known to cultivate unique bonds with students, friends, family and newcomers, and her warmth continues with this scholarship; c. The $10,000 award will be evenly disbursed over four years – student must maintain a good academic standing throughout college (minimum 2.5 GPA) in order to receive funds – one award is granted annually; d. 3. Janet Logan Daily Foundation Scholarship:<br />

a. The Janet Logan Daily Foundation established this scholarship to reward students who may not<br />

necessarily excel in school, but who continually demonstrate strength in responsibility, motivation<br />

and character;<br />

b. This $10,000 award is named in honor and memory of Janet Logan Daily, a devoted teacher who<br />

served in New Jersey schools for over 30 years. Janet was known to cultivate unique bonds with<br />

4. The 200 Club of Warren County Scholarship:<br />

a. $500 Scholarships Available to students scheduled to graduate in June 2013;<br />

b. Applicant must have a parent involved in public safety;<br />

c. Applicants' parent may be either a Police Officer (including State Police, Sheriff's<br />

Department, Corrections Officer), Firefighter, or Emergency Medical Technician (the public safety<br />

person may be retired);<br />

d. Applicant must include a 500 word or less essay on “What does a career in public safety mean to<br />

you”;<br />

e. DEADLINE: Applications must be submitted to Guidance by April 4, 2013.<br />

5. Firth Youth Center Scholarship Award:<br />

a. One (1) $300 Scholarship paid directly to the recipient;<br />

b. Applicant must be planning to attend a two- or four-year college, vocational school, business school,<br />

or any other accredited post-secondary education;<br />

c. Applicant must include a list of your most important accomplishments (including class or school<br />

activities and community activities;<br />

d. Applicant must attach a short essay on your educational goals (future employment, college major,<br />

professional aspirations);<br />

e. Applicant must identify your Firth Youth Center Participation and/or Volunteer Activities During<br />

Your Lifetime at the Center (Consideration will be given first to Firth Youth Center participants and<br />

volunteers);<br />

f. Applicant must attach two (2) Letters of Recommendation (one from a high school teacher and one<br />

from a community member who knows you well {preferably a supervisor from your community<br />

volunteer or other activities} who IS NOT a family member;<br />

g. Applicant must identify the education institution you are planning to attend;<br />

h. Scholarship will be awarded directly to the student upon successful completion of the first semester;<br />

i. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 4, 2013.<br />

6. PHS Class of 1948 Scholarship:<br />

a. Two (2) Scholarships at $500;<br />

b. Application must contain the signatures of both parents/guardians – an explanation of missing<br />

signatures is required;<br />

c. In the event the recipient does not attend school, they MUST return the scholarship award to the<br />

“PHS Class of 1948”;<br />

d. Scholarship is based on academics, activities, and financial need (emphasis placed on financial need);<br />

e. Scholarship awards will be selected by majority vote of the scholarship committee of the “PHS Class<br />

of 1948” – award will be paid directly to the student upon proof of acceptance by the college or<br />

school;<br />

f. Applicant must attach two (2) letters of recommendation;<br />

g. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 4, 2013.


7. Pohatcong Township Staff Scholarship:<br />

a. Two (2) $750 Scholarships Available;<br />

b. Applicant must have attended and graduated from Pohatcong Township <strong>School</strong>;<br />

c. Applicant must submit two (2) recommendations/character references;<br />

d. Applicant must attach an essay, 250 words or less, on "Why I Want to Go to College";<br />

e. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 4, 2013.<br />

8. New Jersey Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Association, Inc. Scholarship:<br />

a. One (1) $1,000 Scholarship awarded to a senior who has ME/CFS;<br />

b. Applicant must be a resident of New Jersey;<br />

c. Applicant must be diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome by a physician who followed the<br />

guidelines for the diagnosis of ME/CFS set forth in the 2006 Journal of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome;<br />

d. Applicant must be accepted and enrolled in a college, university, or an accredited technical school<br />

(full or part time) for the school year 2013-2014;<br />

e. Applicant must have a 2.0 gpa on a 4.0 scale;<br />

f. Applicant must attach a letter of acceptance;<br />

g. Applicant must attach a Personal Statement by Parent(s) or Guardian(s);<br />

h. Applicant must attach a copy of parents’ 2012 1040 Income Tax Return and Student’s 2012 1040 EZ,<br />

if applicable;<br />

i. Applicant must attach a 350 word essay on the topic provided;<br />

j. Applicant must attach one letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or principal;<br />

k. Applicant MUST include completed, signed and dated Physician Diagnosis Confirmation Form;<br />

l. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 5, 2013.<br />

9. The Martin D. Cohen Family Foundation Scholarship:<br />

a. Scholarships up to $500 are awarded to students attending a four-year college; Scholarships up to<br />

$250 are awarded to students attending a two-year college; the number of scholarships awarded is<br />

determined at the discretion of the Foundation;<br />

b. Based primarily on financial need or other unusual circumstances affecting your chances of attending<br />

college;<br />

c. After financial need is established, academics and activities, etc., are considered;<br />

d. Applicants are invited to submit an essay;<br />

e. Special achievements which you have accomplished in your life, or any adverse circumstances which<br />

you have overcome, will be given special consideration;<br />

f. Copies of parents W-2 Forms must be included;<br />

g. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 5, 2013.<br />

10. New Jersey Utilities Association Excellence in Diversity Scholarship Award:<br />

a. One (1) $1,500 per year (total of $6,000) Scholarship will be awarded to a qualified minority, female<br />

and/or disabled student that will be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or<br />

university;<br />

b. Applicant must be a New Jersey resident and a legal resident or citizen of the US;<br />

c. Applicant must be a woman, a disabled person and/or or a member of one of the following minority<br />

groups (Hispanic or Latino, Black or African American, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander,<br />

Asian, American Indian or Alaskan Native, Two or more races);<br />

d. Applicant must have demonstrated overall academic excellence;<br />

e. Applicant must demonstrate financial need;<br />

f. Applicant must be a child of a parent NOT employed by an NJUA member company;<br />

g. Applicant must attach two (2) letters of recommendation (one from a high school teacher or guidance<br />

counselor and one from a non-relative associate of your choice);<br />

h. The NJUA Scholarship Committee reserves the right to request additional information regarding the<br />

eligibility for this award;<br />

11. NJUA Trade and Vocational <strong>School</strong> Scholarship:<br />

a. One (1) Scholarship valued up to $6,000 (with a maximum award of $1,500 per school year) will be<br />

awarded to a qualified student who will be pursuing a Trade or Vocational degree at an accredited<br />

school;<br />

b. Applicant must be a current high school senior;<br />

c. Applicant must be a New Jersey resident and a legal resident or citizen of the US;<br />

d. Applicant must demonstrate overall excellence in high school;<br />

e. Applicant must demonstrate financial need;<br />

f. Applicant must be a child of a parent NOT employed by an NJUA member company;<br />

g. Applicant must attach two (2) letters of recommendation (one from a high school teacher or guidance<br />

counselor and one from a non-relative associate of your choice);<br />

h. The NJUA Scholarship Committee reserves the right to request additional information regarding the<br />

eligibility for this award;<br />

12. New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Foundation Scholarship:<br />

a. Two (2) $2,500 Scholarships awarded for students entering post-high education (college, community<br />

college, trade school, etc.);<br />

b. Applicant must be a New Jersey resident;<br />

c. Applicant must be a graduating high school senior;<br />

d. Applicant has visited the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial;<br />

e. Applicant has written an essay about his/her visit (see application);<br />

f. Applicant has attached verification of acceptance at a particular school;<br />

g. Application must be typed or printed legibly in its entirety;<br />

h. Applicant may submit only one (1) application per school year;<br />

i. Applicant must sign and date Authentication – Parent/Guardian signature is required for applicant<br />

under 18;<br />

j. Free guided tours of the Memorial are available on Saturdays at 11:00am and 1:00pm, February 2nd<br />

through April 13 th , 2013;<br />

k. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 8, 2013.<br />

13. Jess and Lisa Vreeland Scholarship:<br />

a. $500 Scholarship(s) available;<br />

b. Applicant must be a current senior who resides in Alpha and who attends <strong>Phillipsburg</strong> High <strong>School</strong>,<br />

Notre Dame High <strong>School</strong>, Bethlehem Catholic High <strong>School</strong> and Warren County Technical <strong>School</strong>;<br />

c. Scholarships are available to any high school senior of any immediate family member (children and<br />

grandchildren) of any present or past active volunteer of the Alpha Volunteer Fire Company or<br />

Ladies Auxiliary;<br />

d. Applicant must submit essay about his or her family and goals;<br />

e. Applicant must include a list of activities you have been involved in, including the number of years<br />

you have been involved (school/community/church);<br />

f. Applicant must include a list of honors/awards you have received;<br />

g. Applicant must include two (2) Recommendations/Character References;<br />

h. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 12, 2013.<br />

14. Neil Boyer Scholarship:<br />

a. $1,500 Available – Number of Scholarships Awarded to be Determined;<br />

b. Applicant must be a member of the PHS Band;<br />

c. Applicant must be planning to major in music education (music therapy, music composition, etc.);<br />

d. Applicant MUST attach copy of Acceptance Letter from college you are planning to attend which<br />

states your intention to MAJOR in music;<br />

e. Applicant MUST complete the following sentence, in twenty-five words or less,<br />

“I feel that a career in music would benefit be because . . .”<br />

f. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 12, 2013.


15. Melissa M. Genowitz Memorial Scholarship:<br />

a. $1,500 Available – Number of Scholarships Awarded to be Determined;<br />

b. Applicant must be a member of the PHS Band;<br />

c. Applicant must be planning to attend a four-year college, two-year college, or<br />

vocational/technical/business school;<br />

d. Applicant must be in good standing with Band and all Band Activities;<br />

e. Applicant must be a caring individual, dependable, and helpful to others;<br />

f. Applicant MUST attach an essay on “How Being a Member of the PHS Band has Influenced Your<br />

Life”;<br />

g. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 12, 2013.<br />

16. PHS Soccer Booster Club 2013 Scholarship:<br />

a. Two (2) scholarships in the amount of $500 each shall be awarded-scholarships will be gender<br />

neutral;<br />

b. Applicant must be a PHS varsity soccer player for at least two years, graduating in June, 2013.<br />

c. Decision will be based on soccer involvement, academics/school transcripts, character, essay, and<br />

community service (all items are weighed equally);<br />

d. Input (recommendations) from teachers, coaches, administrators, pastors, etc., will be requird;<br />

e. Applicant must submit an essay on “How has soccer made you a better person” – spelling and<br />

grammar will be weighed;<br />

f. Applicant must include a list of all community service – what other activities have you participated in<br />

besides soccer;<br />

g. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 15, 2013.<br />

17. Nittel-Carle Scholarship:<br />

a. Two (2) $1,500 Scholarships - (One awarded to a Male/One awarded to a Female);<br />

b. Applicant must rank between 85 th and 60 th percentile of the class;<br />

c. Applicant must have active participation in one or more service organizations at the high school;<br />

d. Applicant must have participation in drama, music and/or literary activities at the high school;<br />

e. Applicant must have participation in some level of athletic ability, including managers and trainers, at<br />

the intramural or varsity level;<br />

f. Applicant must be taking active steps (having at least submitted an application to a college, junior<br />

college, technical school or similar organization) to enter some form of post high school education;<br />

g. Applicant may be required to submit two (2) Letters of Recommendation at a later date;<br />

h. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 15, 2013.<br />

18. Alice E. Nie Memorial Award:<br />

a. One (1) $100 Scholarship;<br />

b. Award is paid to the college, following proof of successful completion of the first semester;<br />

c. Award is for any student pursuing a post-high school education at an approved institution;<br />

d. Award is based on good character, citizenship, financial need, and scholastic ability;<br />

e. Applicant may be required to submit two (2) Letters of Recommendation at a later date;<br />

f. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 15, 2013.<br />

19. Community Foundation of New Jersey - Jim Ringo Scholarship:<br />

a. One (1) $500 Lump Sum – Non-Renewable (Award will be made payable to the educational<br />

institution);<br />

b. The scholarship’s goal is to perpetuate Jim Ringo’s memory by helping young people develop their<br />

potential, achieve their goals and become successful and productive adults;<br />

c. Graduating senior of <strong>Phillipsburg</strong> High <strong>School</strong> who has been accepted into an accredited two or four<br />

year educational institution;<br />

d. Must be a varsity athlete;<br />

e. Students exhibits high moral character, leadership, and perseverance;


f. Other criteria should include academic performance, extra-curricular activities, work experience and<br />

financial need;<br />

g. Applicant may be required to submit two (2) Letters of Recommendation at a later date;<br />

h. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 15, 2013.<br />

20. Olga Brands Memorial Scholarship:<br />

a. Two (2) $500 Scholarships;<br />

b. Applicant must be planning to attend a two year college or four year college, entering a program that<br />

will lead to a degree;<br />

c. Scholarship will be based on financial need, academics, community service, leadership roles, SAT<br />

scores and written essay. Importance will be placed on essay, community service and financial need;<br />

d. Applicant MUST submit an essay, in 250 words or less, on “How A Teacher Has Influenced Me To<br />

Continue To Pursue a College Education”;<br />

e. Applicant may be required to submit two (2) Letters of Recommendation at a later date;<br />

f. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 15, 2013.<br />

21. Joseph J. Ferraro Memorial Athletic Scholarship:<br />

a. One (1) $500 Scholarship;<br />

b. Applicant must be a PHS Football player;<br />

c. Scholarship will be based on applicant’s contributions to the football team, academics, need,<br />

activities, etc.;<br />

d. Applicant must be planning a four-year college education;<br />

e. Applicant may be required to submit two (2) Letters of Recommendation at a later date;<br />

f. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 15, 2013.<br />

22. Murl E. Hoag Memorial Scholarship:<br />

a. One (1) $1,000 Scholarship - Payable after proof of successful completion of the first semester;<br />

b. Scholarship Committee will consider financial need, personal characteristics, and scholastic record;<br />

c. Scholarship Committee will also lend weight to clear evidence that the applicant has made some<br />

effort to help himself/herself financially by doing some part-time work. A recommendation from<br />

employer (current/summer), specifying length of time employed, type of work performed, rate of pay,<br />

etc., MUST accompany this application;<br />

d. Applicant may be required to submit two (2) Letters of Recommendation at a later date;<br />

e. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 15, 2013.<br />

23. Vincent Lucernoni Memorial Scholarship:<br />

a. One (1) $2,000 Scholarship - Renewable for four years, based on academic performance;<br />

b. Award is paid to the college, following proof of successful completion of the first semester;<br />

c. Award is for any student pursuing a college education, in any field, at an approved four-year<br />

institution;<br />

d. Factors used in selection of award include financial need, academic ability, character, SAT scores and<br />

community service;<br />

e. Applicant must include an essay, in no more than 500 words, on a topic that is important to you;<br />

f. Applicant may be required to submit two (2) Letters of Recommendation at a later date;<br />

g. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 15, 2013.<br />

24. PHS Class of 1937 – Dorothy Hamlin Scholarship:<br />

a. Two (2) $1,000 Scholarships-Payable after proof of successful completion of the first semester;<br />

b. Applicant must be planning to attend college, trade school, business school, or any other type of<br />

advanced educational aims;<br />

c. Applicant must state if they are a relation to a member of the PHS class of 1937. Consideration shall<br />

be given first to a child/grandchild/great grandchild, etc. (or step children) of a member of the PHS<br />

Class of 1937. If none apply, then any student may receive this scholarship;<br />

d. Applicant may be required to submit two (2) Letters of Recommendation at a later date;<br />

e. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 15, 2013.


25. David Henry Clauss Memorial Scholar-Athlete Award:<br />

a. One (1) $100 Scholarship, payable after submission of successful completion of the first semester;<br />

b. This scholarship is in memory of David Henry Clauss, a former PHS teacher, coach and<br />

administrator. Mr. Clauss was compassionate, dedicated to athletics, and a person of integrity.<br />

Applicant should possess these qualities;<br />

c. Scholarship is based on academics, athletic involvement, and financial need;<br />

d. Applicant MUST attach an essay on "How Have Athletics Molded Your Character and Influenced<br />

Your Decisions";<br />

e. Applicant must attach a brief essay explaining any unusual circumstances regarding your family<br />

history/financial assistance, any unusual circumstances which may affect your chances of attending<br />

college, and/or why you feel you deserve this scholarship;<br />

f. Applicant may be required to submit two (2) Letters of Recommendation at a later date;<br />

g. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 15, 2013.<br />

26. Bernardine-May American Legion Post #457 Award:<br />

a. One (1) $500 Savings Bond;<br />

b. Applicant must be sworn in a branch of the United States Military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast<br />

Guard, Marines, NJ Army National Guard), Service Academies, and Military College (ROTC) with a<br />

report date;<br />

c. Applicant must complete Basic Training;<br />

d. Applicant must report to their first duty station and provide proof through sharing a copy of the orders<br />

to the Bernardine-May American Legion Commander;<br />

e. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 15, 2013.<br />

27. Jason L. Frey Memorial Scholarship:<br />

a. Number(s) and Amount of Scholarship(s) to be Determined;<br />

standout basketball player. Amanda is a breast cancer survivor who is now fighting cancer in her<br />

liver and abdomen. Throughout her diagnoses, treatments and recovery, Amanda has always<br />

displayed honor, courage, determination and optimism with a “never quite” attitude;<br />

c. Applicant MUST be a Senior PHS Women’s Basketball Player;<br />

d. Applicant MUST attach essays responding to the following questions (essays must be typed on a<br />

separate piece of paper):<br />

1. What personal characteristics do you possess that exemplify the LINERS scholarship qualities?<br />

and<br />

2. Do you know anyone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer? If so, how did their diagnosis<br />

impact your life? What did you say or do for that person during their treatment?;<br />

e. Applicant MUST attach a list of the sports that you have been involved in, a list of the honors/awards<br />

29. Douglas J. Steinhardt Scholarship:<br />

a. One (1) Scholarship at $2,000 – payable in installments of $500 per year;<br />

c. Applicant MUST be an integral member of the PHS community; involvement may be based on<br />

academics, athletics, extra-curricular, etc.;<br />

d. Scholarship will be based primarily on financial need; however, academics and leadership roles will<br />

also be considered;<br />

e. Recipient MUST maintain a 3.0 gpa or higher each year, and must provide evidence of this to<br />

maintain this scholarship;<br />

30. PHS Class of 1946 – Marian Smith Scholarship:<br />

32. Andrew Bartush Corso Memorial Scholarship:<br />

a. One (1) $500 Scholarship;<br />

c. Scholarship Committee will seek input from the Coach regarding the applicants’ sportsmanship and<br />

team dedication;<br />

33. Richard I. Hodges Memorial Scholarship:<br />

a. One (1) $1,000 Scholarship (payable after proof of matriculation has been submitted);<br />

b. This scholarship is given in memory of Richard I. Hodges, who taught chemistry at PHS for 35 years.<br />

He was totally dedicated to teaching. He made chemistry fun and interesting to his students. He<br />

loved the sciences as much as he loved teaching;<br />

c. This scholarship is available to any student planning to further their education at a four-year college<br />

or two-year college; however, special consideration will be given to a student pursuing a degree in<br />

science or teaching;<br />

d. Scholarship will also be based on academics and school activities;<br />

e. Applicant may be required to submit two (2) Letters of Recommendation at a later date;<br />

34. Dominic “Mickey” Frinzi Memorial Scholarship:<br />

a. One (1) $500 Scholarship;<br />

c. Scholarship is open to students furthering their education at a two-year, four-year, vocational, or<br />

of the first semester of any post-high school program;<br />

d. Applicant must have applied and been accepted to continue their education at a university, junior<br />

college or vocational school;<br />

e. Applicant must answer the attached essay question in no more than one double-spaced typed page;<br />

f. Applicant must include a list of all extracurricular activities, community service,<br />

talents/awards/honors, and employment, internships, and/or summer activities (preferred to be a table<br />

or list form);<br />

37. The Doctor Is In Scholarship:<br />

a. One (1) $250 Scholarship;<br />

b. This scholarship is for a graduating senior planning a career in a “helping profession”. This can be<br />

interpreted to be a medical field; however, in the past, the scholarship has been given to a student<br />

planning to enter a career in teaching and counseling;<br />

c. Applicant MUST attach an essay about why they are planning a career in the helping profession of<br />

their choice;<br />

38. Huntington Volunteer Fire Department Association Scholarship:<br />

a. Two (2) Scholarships at $1,000;<br />

b. Applicant must be a current senior anticipating receiving a high school diploma at the time of<br />

c. Applicant must be planning to attend a college, university, vocational or technical school;<br />

d. Applicant must be a resident of Pohatcong Township, or a member or relative<br />

(son/daughter/grandchild/niece/nephew) of an active or retired member of the Huntington Volunteer<br />

Fire Company or Huntington Volunteer Fire Department Association;<br />

e. Applicant must provide two (2) letters of recommendation from an advisor, coach, teacher or<br />

employer/supervisor of an activity in which he/she has participated;<br />

f. Applicant must include a 300-word essay describing why you want to further your education. Your<br />

essay should also include extra-curricular activities (including school and church), community<br />

service, employment history, athletic achievement, leadership roles, and financial need;<br />

39. New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome Scholarship:<br />

a. The amount of the prize, criteria and selection of the recipient shall be in the sole discretion of the<br />

New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome & Associated Disorders, Inc., which reserves the right to<br />

determine the amount of the award and whether to award it based upon the applications;<br />

b. Applicant must be a high school senior diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome;<br />

c. Applicant must be domiciled in the State of New Jersey;


d. Applicant must be a high school senior in a private or public school;<br />

e. Applicant must be planning to attend a college or trade school on a part-time or full-time basis;<br />

f. Applicant must submit an essay of one to two pages, typed, double spaced, describing how Tourette<br />

Syndrome has played a part in your life. You may also submit a CD, cassette, DVD or video<br />

displaying your talent(s) (e.g. musical, slides of works of art, sports) of about five minutes in length;<br />

g. Recipient should be amenable to having his or her essay published on the Teens4TS blog, appearing<br />

in local media publications, speaking to local students about Tourette Syndrome, and attending a<br />

ceremony or presentation with state and federal legislators, if requested;<br />

42. Blood Donor Recruitment Scholarship Award:<br />

a. This scholarship is designed to encourage and reward a high school blood donor chairperson for their<br />

efforts in stimulating interest and increasing the available blood supply within the ten Pennsylvania<br />

and New Jersey counties serving Miller-Keystone Blood Center;<br />

b. Awards are presented in three regional breakdowns: (1) Lehigh Valley/Upper Bucks/New Jersey, (2)<br />

Berks/Montgomery/Chester, and (3) Carbon/Schuylkill/Luzerne/Monroe;<br />

c. Three (3) awards are presented for each region – one in the amount of $1,000 and two in the amount<br />

of $500, for a total of nine annual scholarship awards;<br />

d. Recipient must have acted as chairperson for the high school’s blood drives during the past year;<br />

university in the Fall of 2013;<br />

c. One Scholarship will be awarded to a JCC (Jewish Community Center) member or staff member; the<br />

high school in Hunterdon, Somerset, or Warren counties at any time during their high school tenure;<br />

d. Applicant must be a JCC Member, a JCC Staff Member, or played basketball for at least one of their<br />

Somerset, Hunterdon, or Warren County high school Basketball teams (Freshman, Junior Varsity or<br />

Varsity) for 2 or more years;<br />

activities outside of sports;<br />

battle with cancer shortly after graduation. Mark enjoyed the outdoors. He especially loved fishing,<br />

hunting and basketball. He was planning to attend college to major in Environmental Science. His<br />

family has chosen to keep his memory alive by offering this scholarship, and they hope to help a<br />

student who will try to make this world a better place;<br />

c. Financial need may be considered;<br />

planning to help make this world a better place;<br />

b. This scholarship is in memory of Eric E. Lair, a 2006 graduate of PHS, who tragically lost his battle<br />

with drug addiction on August 17, 2009. Eric was extremely talented and had an amazing love and<br />

understanding of music and art. The family believes no amazing soul should go unnoticed, and<br />

would love to help a student who has the same love and passion for music and art that Eric had, and<br />

who is willing to make the most of every gift given to them;<br />

c. Applicant must be planning to major in music or performing arts program, including<br />

production/recording/etc., in a two-year college, four-year college, or vocational/technical school;<br />

d. Scholarship will be based on financial need, academics, leadership roles, and written essays;<br />

e. Applicant MUST attach an essay about each of the following questions:<br />

1. Explain any unusual circumstances you have had to overcome; and<br />

64. Mark R. Koppe Memorial Scholarship:<br />

a. One (1) $300 Scholarship;<br />

b. This scholarship is in memory of Mark R. Koppe, a 1998 graduate of PHS who was tragically killed<br />

in a motorcycle accident on May 26, 2005. Mark was a hardworking, honest, and loyal all-around<br />

wonderful young man who always would go out of his way to help others. He had a passion for the<br />

outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and dirt biking, and spent much of his time working<br />

and helping out on local farms. His mother, stepfather, sister and brother have chosen to have his<br />

name live on through a memorial scholarship, and each year they hope to choose someone with the<br />

same great qualities that Mark had.<br />

c. Applicant must be planning to further their education in agriculture or an agriculturally related field;<br />

d. Scholarship will be based on financial need;<br />

e. Applicant MUST include a brief essay about himself/herself and what their educational goals are,<br />

explain their interest in agriculture, and why they feel they deserve this scholarship;<br />

f. Recipient will be chosen by the family of Mark R. Koppe;<br />

g. Applicant must be willing to help others, and must be hard-working, honest, loyal, and have a passion<br />

for the outdoors;<br />

65. Stateliners Youth Baseball Association Scholarship:<br />

a. One (1) Scholarship at $250;<br />

b. Applicant must be a current senior anticipating receiving a high school diploma at the time of<br />

application;<br />

c. Applicant must be planning to attend a college, university, vocational or technical school;<br />

d. Applicant must have been a participant of the SYBA;<br />

e. Applicant must be a member of the high school varsity baseball team;<br />

f. Applicant must attach a list of the activities I have been involved in and a list of the honors/awards<br />

that I have received;<br />

g. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 29, 2013.<br />

66. The Donald and Itasker Thornton Memorial Scholarship:<br />

a. The Thornton Sisters Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation organized for the purpose of<br />

annually providing one or more one-year educational scholarship(s) to deserving young females of<br />

color;<br />

b. Applicant must be a female of color (African-American, Latino-American, Caribbean-American,<br />

Native American, etc.);<br />

c. Applicant must have a gpa of C+ or better;<br />

d. Applicant must submit three (3) letters of recommendation (one from a teacher or faculty member);<br />

e. Recommendations must include to what capacity person has known the applicant and for how long;<br />

f. Applicant must submit most recent copy of parents’ Income Tax statement or any equivalent<br />

documentation of parents’ income (W-2 forms will not be accepted);<br />

g. Applicant must complete a 500 word essay describing family background, personal and financial<br />

hardships, honors or academic distinctions and community involvement/activities;<br />

h. Applicant must attach a photograph;<br />

i. Applicant must be planning to enter a four-year accredited college or university (official verification<br />

of college acceptance is required);<br />

j. Any finalist who does not complete her first year of college shall reimburse the Foundation for all<br />

scholarship monies received and all legal costs incurred with that reimbursement;<br />

k. If Applicant becomes a finalist, a personal interview with the Board of Trustees shall be required;<br />

67. All About Education Scholarship:<br />

a. One (1) $3,000 Non-Renewable Scholarship;<br />

b. Applicant must be a legal US resident;<br />

c. Applicant must be 13 years of age or older at time of application;<br />

d. Applicant must be a resident of one of the 50 United States or the <strong>District</strong> of Columbia;


e. Applicant must be planning to further their education at a postsecondary institution of higher<br />

education;<br />

f. Applicant must respond (250 words max) on “How will a $3,000 scholarship for education make a<br />

difference in your life?”;<br />

68. Andrew Glackin Scholarship for the Performing Arts:<br />

a. One (1) Scholarship at $250;<br />

b. Applicant must be planning to attend post high school educational institution in the area of<br />

performing arts, including music (vocal or instrumental), dance, drama (musical theater included), or<br />

communications;<br />

c. Applicant must show active participation in the arts program at PHS, as well as community<br />

involvement;<br />

d. Applicant MUST include a statement of all performing arts organizations they have participated in for<br />

both school and extra-curricular activities, listing all performances from freshman through senior<br />

year;<br />

e. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 30, 2013.<br />

69. PHS Choir Boosters Scholarship:<br />

a. Number and Amount of Scholarships Awarded to be Determined;<br />

b. Applicant must be a Senior planning to attend a two-year or four-year college; (If the recipient does<br />

not attend college in the first two years after high school graduation, they must return the scholarship<br />

award);<br />

c. Applicant must have been a member of two (2) or more choral ensembles from their Freshman to<br />

Senior Years (including co-curricular and extra-curricular);<br />

d. Applicant must show dedication and support of the choral music program to the school and<br />

community;<br />

e. Applicant must attach a list of activities (school, community, religious group, etc.). Include the<br />

number of years you have been involved in each activity;<br />

f. Applicant must attach a list of honors and awards you have received;<br />

g. Applicant must attach a letter of recommendation from someone other than the choral director;<br />

h. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 30, 2013.<br />

70. Epilepsy Foundation of New Jersey Scholarship:<br />

a. Three (3) $1,000 Scholarships;<br />

b. Applicant must be a high school senior with epilepsy planning to attend a college or university;<br />

c. The extent of the student’s disability(s) will be taken into account as well, so he/she does not need to<br />

be near the top of his/her class to qualify;<br />

d. Applicant must write a brief personal statement explaining your academic and career goals;<br />

e. Applicant must submit a letter verifying admission to college or university;<br />

f. Applicant must submit a statement of diagnosis from a physician, indicating the type and severity of<br />

your seizures (and other disabilities, if applicable);<br />

g. Applicant must submit two (2) letters of recommendation from a teacher, coach, guidance counselor,<br />

principal, employer or clergy;<br />

h. Applicant must submit copy of the 2012 Parents’ Federal Income Tax Return;<br />

i. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by May 1, 2013.<br />

71. Autism Family Services of New Jersey Scholarship:<br />

a. Two (2) $1,000 Scholarships Available;<br />

b. Applicant must be a current high school senior and New Jersey resident;<br />

c. Applicant must have an established diagnosis of Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, or PDD-NOS;<br />

d. Applicant must plan on pursuing a post-secondary education at a college, university, technical, trade,<br />

or vocational school;


e. Academic achievement, meaningful community volunteerism, participation in extra-curricular<br />

activities and financial needs will be considered;<br />

f. Applicant need not be near the top of their class;<br />

g. Applicant must describe your participation in extracurricular activities, employment, community<br />

activities, sports, religion or other special accomplishments that set you apart from other applicants;<br />

h. Applicant must include a list of any academic awards or honors that you have received during high<br />

school;<br />

i. Applicant must include a brief personal statement describing a significant challenge that you have<br />

faced in the past and what your goals are for the future. Share the efforts you took to overcome the<br />

past challenge and what steps you will take to accomplish your future goals;<br />

j. Applicant must attach letter verifying admission to college, university, trade, vocational, or technical<br />

school;<br />

k. Applicant must include a statement of diagnosis from your physician;<br />

l. Applicant must include two letters of recommendation from a teacher, coach, guidance counselor,<br />

principal, employer, or clergy, explaining why you are deserving of this scholarship;<br />

m. Applicant must attach copy of 2012 parents’ Federal Income Tax Return;<br />

n. DEADLINE: Applications must be returned to Guidance by May 1, 2013.<br />

72. Mid-New Jersey Youth Soccer Association-Liesel Krehan Memorial Scholarship Award:<br />

a. Two (2) $1,000 Scholarships Available (One Awarded to a Male/One Awarded to a Female);<br />

b. Applicant must be a graduating senior;<br />

c. Award will be offered to any young person who will be attending any type of formal post high school<br />

education (this includes but is not limited to trade, technical, artistic, junior college, college,<br />

university, or any other type of formal post high school education);<br />

d. Academics, although important, will not be the sole or necessarily the most important aspect of the<br />

selection process;<br />

e. The parents’/student’s financial situation will not be considered as one of the elements of the<br />

selection process;<br />

f. The candidate has to have been associated with a MNJYSA affiliates club/team as an athlete,<br />

volunteer trainer, or as a referee during his/her high school years;<br />

g. The candidate has to have his/her association verified by resolution/letter of an affiliated Club’s<br />

Board of Directors;<br />

h. Letters of recommendation will be required from a High <strong>School</strong> Coach, a Club official, and<br />

community source (ie employer, counselor, priest, rabbi, teacher, etc.);<br />

i. Scholarship will be awarded to the applicant who best exemplifies the IDEALS of self-discipline,<br />

responsibility, good citizenship, team work, and your individual contribution to your club/team;<br />

j. Applicant must submit a short essay (no more than 250 words) on “What Positive Role Has Soccer<br />

Played in my Life so Far, and How Will it Help Me in the Future”;<br />

k. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by May 1, 2013.<br />

73. PHS Class of 1967 Scholarship:<br />

a. Two (2) $750 Scholarships Available;<br />

b. Applicant must be planning to further their education at a four-year or two-year institution;<br />

c. Applicant must be in the top 25% of the graduating class;<br />

d. This scholarship will be awarded after recipient has provided written confirmation of acceptance and<br />

first payment has been made to school of choice;<br />

e. Scholarship will be based on academics and activities, both in and out of school. In addition,<br />

leadership roles and financial need will also be considered;<br />

f. Applicant MUST include an essay stating why this scholarship is important to them, and why they<br />

want to continue their education;<br />

g. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by May 1, 2013.


74. The Barry L. Bush Memorial Scholarship:<br />

a. One (1) $2,000 Scholarship;<br />

b. This scholarship is in memory of Special Agent Barry L. Bush, a 20-year veteran of the FBI who was<br />

killed in the line of duty on April 5, 2007;<br />

c. This scholarship is open to any graduating senior who will pursue a two- or four-year post high<br />

school program with a major in law enforcement, criminal justice, law, or related majors, like<br />

forensic science and corrections or who has been accepted as a full-time recruit at an MPOETCcertified<br />

police academy;<br />

d. Applicant MUST submit an essay, in 500 words or less, that explains their motivation for pursuing a<br />

career in law enforcement;<br />

e. A committee will review each essay and decide the recipient;<br />

f. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by May 1, 2013.<br />

75. Greenwich Autism Alliance:<br />

a. $1,000 Scholarships Available – Amount Awarded to be Determined;<br />

b. Applicant must have a Case Manager through the Child Study Team;<br />

c. Applicant must be planning to pursue post-secondary education at any accredited institution;<br />

d. Applicant must want to further his/her education/training after high school; however, lacks<br />

the finances to continue their education;<br />

e. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by May 1, 2013.<br />

76. Delaware Park Fire Co. #1 Scholarship:<br />

a. One (1) $500 Scholarship;<br />

b. Applicant MUST have a parent with active service, whether paid or volunteer, in fire,<br />

police, or EMS work;<br />

c. Applicant must be planning to attend an institution of high learning (ie two or four year<br />

college or technical school;<br />

d. Applicant must write or type a resume that includes:<br />

(1) Applicant Name, Date of Birth, Address, Home Telephone, and Name of Parent/Guarian;<br />

(2) Community service, religious, volunteer service work, etc.;<br />

(3) <strong>School</strong> activities and/or employment: clubs, committees, sports, music: give<br />

employer's name and address;<br />

(4) Reasons for choosing course of study;<br />

(5) Reasons for applying for financial aid;<br />

(6) All other information you want the Committee to consider;<br />

e. Applicant must complete attached Questionnaire;<br />

77. Green Street <strong>School</strong> PTO Scholarship:<br />

a. One (1) Scholarship at $200;<br />

b. Applicant MUST have attended Green Street <strong>School</strong> for third, fourth and fifth (3 rd , 4 th & 5 th ) grades;<br />

c. Applicant must plan to further his/her education;<br />

d. Applicant must respond to this 3-part question in a typed, succinct, organized essay not to exceed 400<br />

words:<br />

Part 1: Reflecting on your time at Green Street <strong>School</strong>, describe a significant “life lesson” that you<br />

learned and still value today;<br />

Part 2: What makes you the best candidate for this scholarship?; and<br />

Part 3: Describe your career aspirations;<br />

78. <strong>Phillipsburg</strong> Lodge #52 F&AM Scholarship:<br />

a. One (1) $500 Scholarship each year for two years (total $1,000);<br />

b. Applicant must plan to enroll full time in a course of study at an accredited two year college,<br />

vocational/technical, trade, performing arts or business school;<br />

c. Applicant must have a 2.5 gpa on a 4.0 scale;


d. Applicant must submit a short essay (500 words) including your career goals, information regarding<br />

activities outside of school that may include community service, commitment of service to othersboth<br />

in school and community;<br />

e. Applicant must submit verification of enrollment from the school;<br />

f. Applicant must attach three (3) letters of recommendation – one from guidance counselor, one from a<br />

teacher or a grade level principal, and one from an activity advisor or a clergy;<br />

g. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by May 2, 2013.<br />

79. W. Edward Zarbatany Award:<br />

a. One (1) Award at $250;<br />

b. W. Edward Zarbatany was a member of the PSD Business Community Partnership, formerly known<br />

as the Citizens Advisory Committee for Career Education, for 18 years, serving as Chairman for most<br />

of those years. He was dedicated to the youth of the community and believed in sound business<br />

practice;<br />

c. Applicant must be conscientious and hard-working; and planning to further their education at any<br />

post-secondary institution;<br />

d. Applicant must have been involved in the Senior Learning Experience program through PHS during<br />

their senior year, having held some position of employment while continuing their academic courses;<br />

e. Applicant MUST attach a letter of recommendation from the current employer specifying length of<br />

time employed, type of work performed, etc.;<br />

f. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by May 2, 2013.<br />

80. <strong>Phillipsburg</strong> Education Association 2013 Scholarship:<br />

a. The applicant must be a hard-working student currently enrolled in <strong>Phillipsburg</strong> High <strong>School</strong> as<br />

evidenced by the student’s high school transcript and most recent report card;<br />

b. The applicant must have been a student in the <strong>Phillipsburg</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> for a minimum of 8<br />

years;<br />

c. The applicant must intend to attend a 4 year college, 2 year college, or a vocational/technical/business<br />

school after graduating from <strong>Phillipsburg</strong> High <strong>School</strong>;<br />

d. Scholarships in the amount of up to $1,000 will be awarded;<br />

e. Applicant must attach a minimum of 2 letters of reference. One reference must be a teacher and one<br />

must be a personal reference other than a family member;<br />

held, school, community, civic and charitable organizations);<br />

f. Applicant must attach two (2) letter of recommendation – one from a teacher and one from an adult

Club has taught them and how they think it will shape their future;<br />

83. Greenwich Township Education Association Scholarship:<br />

a. Two (2) Scholarships at $500 (awarded to students from PHS or Warren Tech);<br />

b. Applicant must be a graduate of Stewartsville Middle <strong>School</strong>;<br />

c. Applicant must plan to further his/her education at a four-year, two-year, trade, technical,<br />

nursing school, etc.;<br />

d. Scholarship is based on financial need, academic achievement, activities/involvements and<br />

recommendations;<br />

e. Applicant must attach two (2) Recommendations/Character References;<br />

f. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by May 6, 2013.<br />

84. Alpha PTO Memorial Scholarship:<br />

a. $100 Scholarship/Per Year;<br />

b. Applicant must be a graduate of Alpha Public <strong>School</strong>;<br />

c. Applicant must be accepted at an accredited college or other accredited school, including nursing and<br />

vocational technical school;<br />

d. Applicant must be planning to attend summer or fall semester following graduation;<br />

e. Applicant must have earned at least a “B” grade average;<br />

f. Citizenship, Character, Personality and Finances will be taken into account;<br />

g. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by May 6, 2013.<br />

85. Jon M. Pritsch Memorial Golf Scholarship:<br />

a. Applicant must have played golf as a member of their high school golf team and be interested in a<br />

career in professional golf;<br />

b. Applicant must have been accepted to an accredited college or university;<br />

c. Eligibility is not dependent on financial need;<br />

d. Applicant must have golf coach sign the application and attach a letter of recommendation including<br />

your playing proficiency;<br />

e. Applicant must attach a letter of recommendation from the Golf Pro at the course where you play<br />

most of your golf;<br />

f. Applicant must include a short essay (no more than 1 page) on “How I Plan to Pursue a Career as a<br />

professional golfer”;<br />

g. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by May 15, 2013.<br />

86. Fifth Month Scholarship:<br />

a. One (1) $1,500 Non-Renewable Scholarship;<br />

b. Applicant must be a legal US resident;<br />

c. Applicant must be 13 years of age or older at time of application;<br />

d. Applicant must be a resident of one of the 50 United States or the <strong>District</strong> of Columbia;<br />

e. Applicant must be planning to further their education at a postsecondary institution of higher<br />

education;<br />

f. Applicant must respond (250 words max) on “May is the fifth month of the year. Write a letter to the<br />

number five explaining why five is important. Be serious or be funny. Either way, here’s a high five<br />

to you for being original.”;<br />

87. AES Engineers Scholarship:<br />

a. One (1) $500 Scholarship;<br />

b. AES Engineers is committed to continuing its support of higher education by providing scholarships<br />

to deserving students;<br />

c. Their belief is that achieving a high grade point average should not be the only criteria for<br />

determining who deserves to be helped;<br />

d. This scholarship is awarded on the basis of character, as determined by evaluating the essay<br />

submitted;<br />
