These classes were not available to our students prior to this year. School and Community: Phillipsburg is situated in the southwestern tip of Warren County at the forks of the Delaware River. It is the largest town in this agricultural section of New Jersey. Due to its situation in the highly diversified industrial area of the Lehigh Valley, its economy is relatively stable. Phillipsburg High School is one of the oldest high schools in New Jersey. It was organized by an act of the New Jersey Legislature in 1871. The present high school, constructed in 1927, contains 63 classrooms and a library with over 19,000 books and audio visual materials. There are 138 faculty members. Phillipsburg High School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the New Jersey Department of Education. Attendance Policy:<br />

Students are expected to be present on all the days and hours<br />

that school is in session, in order to receive the full benefit from<br />

their educational program. Credits are not awarded to students<br />

who exceed the maximum allowable absentee limit in respective<br />

courses.<br />

Graduation Requirements:<br />

<strong>District</strong> boards of education shall develop, adopt, and implement<br />

requirements for a state-endorsed diploma. Local high school<br />

graduation requirements include the following:<br />

1. Student must pass the New Jersey <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Proficiency<br />

Assessment.<br />

2. Participation in a local program of study of not fewer than 125<br />

credits in courses designed to meet all of the Core Curriculum<br />

Content Standards, including but not limited to, the following<br />

credits:<br />

a. At least 20 credits in language arts literacy.<br />

b. At least 15 credits in mathematics.<br />

c. At least 15 credits in science.<br />

d. At least 15 credits in social studies, including satisfaction of<br />

N.J.S.A. 18A:35-1 and 2.<br />

e. At least 5 credits in health, safety, and physical education<br />

during each year of enrollment, distributed as 150 minutes per<br />

week; as required by N.J.S.A. 18A:35-5, 7 and 8.<br />

f. At least 5 credits in fine/performing arts.<br />

g. At least 5 credits in career/technical education.<br />

h. At least 5 credits in world languages.<br />

i. Cross-content workplace readiness which may be satisfied<br />

through infusion into existing courses, course equivalents, or<br />

career education courses.<br />

3. Students must be in attendance for a specified number of days per<br />

school year to receive credit for courses.
