Data from the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI) illustrate some other aspects to consider when<br />
compiling time profiles for global application. First in Figure A.2.7 seasonal variation in crude steel<br />
production is shown for 1993. At first impression it looks quite uniform for most countries/regions.<br />
However, when analysing multi-annual datasets it clearly shows that European countries show a distinct<br />
non-uniform pattern with dips in August and December, possibly related to planned maintenance periods<br />
during holiday months, not visible in other regions (see Figure A.2.7 for EU, USA and Japan). This<br />
proves the value of analysing seasonal data for more than one year only.<br />
