Cultural aspects are visible in the patterns for air transport presented in Figure A.2.5, based on an<br />

analysis by Mortlock (1994) of monthly Offical Airline Guide (OAG) traffic data for the period 1976-<br />

1991. Most of the interregional and intraregional flights are rather uniform in time, with two clear<br />

exceptions. North Atlantic flights between Europe and North America are more frequent in summer and<br />

autumn months and flights within Europe which show a clear peak during July and August, probably<br />

representing a peak in holiday traffic. These profiles were aggregated to a more simple profile for<br />

application in a Dutch aircraft policy study by Olivier (1995), while maintaining these noted exceptions<br />

(Fig. A.2.6).<br />
