10 Powerful Connection conceived in Palm Springs as ‘A Force for Good’ Long time Palm Springs resident, Daryn Hinton has helped orchestrate a powerful partnership that can positively impact the youth of our Coachella Valley and the rest of the country as a force for good! Michael Sweet + Childhelp. It is no secret that cyber bullying and other forms of child abuse are growing at an alarming rate. Almost half of all children who have been abused consider suicide. To help combat this and bring awareness to the situation, Daryn brought together Childhelp, the oldest and one of the largest non-profits dealing with Child Abuse in the country, and Michael Sweet, lead singer & founding member of Stryper and previously lead singer of the legendary band Boston. Daryn financed and managed Stryper in the 80’s during their iconic and controversial rise to fame as they pioneered a movement that tore down the walls of mainstream music to faith based music, while selling millions of albums and breaking viewing records on the then popular MTV. Two crucial people to Stryper’s success in the 80’s were traumatically touched by the ugly face of suicide just weeks ago. One’s son committed suicide and another’s daughter attempted suicide. We are passionate about Michael’s impacting video ‘I’M NOT YOUR SUICIDE’ which Daryn helped produce. It speaks to the kids and empowers them. A lot of people joined the cause and partnered together in this video: The all star band includes Kenny Aronoff, one of the world’s most in-demand and influential drummers who played drums for Ringo Starr at the 2014 Grammy Awards, Joel Hoekstra, guitar for Night Ranger, Broadway hit ‘Rock of Ages’ & Trans Siberian Orchestra and James LoMenzo, who toured with David Lee Roth, Ozzy Osbourne, Slash, Ace Frehley, Zakk Wylde, Dave Mustaine etc. Eric Blair Daley co-wrote the song with Michael and he has four #1 singles. Two of the young ladies in the video are accomplished singers and champion the cause against bullying: Electra Mustaine (Megadeath’s Dave Mustaine’s daughter) and Gabbie Rae. Most of the Children in the video are learning to defend themselves as martial arts students of Master Todd Shawn Tei. All these people have partnered together to champion the cause. Michael Sweet and his record company, Big Three, are donating a portion of the proceeds of the song to Childhelp. LIVE Magazine has written this article. What can you do to help? We would like to see the Childhelp ‘Speak Up Be Safe’ program in every school in the Coachella Valley and beyond. It only cost $5 per child.
