3 Stitch Holders; A Yarn Needle; 9 Buttons.
TENSION/gauge
19 sts and 32 rows to 10 cm/4 ins over
pattern, using 5.00mm (US 8), (UK 6)
Knitting Needles.
Note - Correct tension/gauge is essential for
a successful handknit.
Abbreviations
St/s - stitch/es, K - Knit, P - Purl, RS - right
side, WS - wrong side, patt - pattern, sl - slip,

CREATE
Back
Using 5.00mm (US 8), (UK 6) Needles and C2,
cast on 67 (75-79-83-87-91) sts.
Note - Do not cut yarns when working in colour
stripes, instead carry yarn not in use loosely up
side of work until required again.
1st row (RS) - K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last
st, K1.
2nd row - K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.
Last 2 rows form 1 x 1 rib.
Using C1, rep 1st and 2nd rows until work
measures 4 (5-5-5-6-6) cms/1½ (2-2-2-2½-
2½) ins from beg, ending with a 2nd row. **
Beg patt - Using C2, 1st row (RS) - Knit.
2nd row - K3, * yft, sl 1 purlways, ybk, K3, rep
from * to end.
Using C1, 3rd row - Knit.
4th row - K1, * yft, sl 1 purlways, ybk, K3,
rep from * to last 2 sts, yft, sl 1 purlways,
ybk, K1.
Rows 1 to 4 incl form patt.
Cont in patt until work measures 33 (37-39-
41-43-45) cms/
13 (15-15½-16½-17-18) ins from beg,
working last row on WS.
Tie a coloured thread at each end of last
row to mark beg of armholes as there is no
armhole shaping.
Cont in patt until work measures 15 (16-18-
19-20-21) cms/
6 (6½-7-7½-8-8½) ins from coloured
threads, working last row on WS.
Shape shoulders - Keeping patt correct,
cast/bind off 20 (24-26-28-30-32) sts at
beg of next 2 rows.
Leave rem 27 sts on a stitch holder.
Left Front
Using 5.00mm (US 8), (UK 6) Needles and
C2, cast on 35 (39-39-43-43-47) sts.
Work in 1 x 1 rib as for lower band of Back
to **.
Beg patt - Work 4 rows patt as for Back.
Shape pocket - Keeping patt correct, Next
row - Patt 15, turn.
Cont in patt on these 15 sts until pocket
opening measures 10 (10-11-11-12-14)
cms/4 (4-4½-4½-5-5½) ins, working last
row on RS. Break off yarn.
Leave sts on a spare needle.
With RS facing, join yarn to rem sts and patt
to end.
Cont in patt until work measures same as
pocket opening, ending with same patt row.
With WS facing, place all sts onto the same
needle.
Cont in patt across all sts until work measures
same as Back to coloured threads, ending
with same patt row.
Tie a coloured thread at end of last row to
mark beg of armhole as there is no armhole
shaping.
Cont in patt until work measures same
as Back from coloured threads to beg of
shoulder shaping, ending with same patt row.

Shape shoulder - Next row - Cast/bind off
20 (24-26-28-30-32) sts, patt to end.
Next row - Patt across rem 15 (15-13-15-
13-15) sts.
Slip these sts onto a stitch holder for hood.

Right Front
Work to correspond with Left Front to ***, working
1 extra row before shape pocket and noting to tie
a coloured thread for armhole at beg of last row
instead of end.
Work 1 row.
Shape shoulder - Next row (WS) - Cast/bind off
20 (24-26-28-30-32) sts, patt to end.
Slip rem 15 (15-13-15-13-15) sts on a stitch
holder and leave for hood.
Sleeves
Using 5.00mm (US 8), (UK 6) Needles and C2,
cast on 35 (35-39-39-43-43) sts.
Work in 1 x 1 rib as for lower band of Back to **.
Beg patt - Work 4 rows patt as for Back.
Cont in patt and working extra sts into patt, inc
one st at each end of next row, then in every foll
6th row until there are 55 (59-67-71-75-79) sts.
Cont in patt without shaping until work measures
28 (33-38-40-42-43) cms/11 (13-15-16-16½-
17) ins from beg, working last row on WS.
Cast/bind off very loosely.
Hood
Using yarn needle and back stitch, join shoulder
seams.
With RS facing, using 5.00mm Needles (US 8),
(UK 6) Needles and C2, knit across sts from right
front stitch holder - dec 2 (2-0-2-0-2) sts evenly
across, knit across sts from back stitch holder,
then knit across sts from left front stitch holder -
dec 2 (2-0-2-0-2) sts evenly across = 55 sts.
Tie a coloured thread at each end of row.
Cont in patt as for Back (beg with a 2nd row), inc
one st at each end of 3rd row, then in every foll
6th row until there are 73 (73-73-77-77-79) sts.
Cont in patt without shaping until work measures
22 (22-24-24-26-28) cms/9 (9-9½-9½-10½-
11) ins from coloured threads, working last row
on WS.
Cast/bind off loosely.
Pocket Bands
With RS facing, using 5.00mm Needles (US 8),
(UK 6) Needles and C1, knit up 19 (19-21-21-
23-27) sts evenly along pocket opening side edge
on front.
Work in 1 x 1 rib as for lower band of Back, beg
with a 2nd row, until work measures 2.5 cms/1
ins, ending with a 2nd row.
Break off C1.
Using C2, work 1 row rib.
Cast/bind off loosely in rib.
Work other pocket band in same manner.
Pocket Linings
With RS facing, using 5.00mm Needles (US
8), (UK 6) Needles and C1, knit up 18 (18-
20-20-22-26) sts evenly along side edge of
pocket opening closest to side edge of front.
Work in stocking st, beg with a purl row, until
pocket lining measures 1 cm/½ in less from
pocket opening to centre front edge, ending
with a purl row.
Cast/bind off loosely.
Work other pocket lining to correspond.
Front Band
Fold cast/bind off edge of hood in half and
using yarn needle and back stitch, join seam
to form top of hood.
Using 5.00mm (US 8), (UK 6) Needles and
C2, cast on 7 sts.
Work 2 rows 1 x 1 rib as for lower band of
Back.
Break off C2.
Using C1, work 2 rows rib.
** 5th row - K2, P1, cast/bind off one st,
P1, K2.
6th row - K1, P1, K1, turn, cast on one st,
turn, K1, P1, K1 = buttonhole.
Cont in rib for a further 5 (5.5-6-6.5-7-7.5)
cms/2 (2-2½-2½-3-3) ins, ending with a 2nd
row. **
Rep from ** to ** 8 times = 9 buttonholes
in total.
Cont in rib without further buttonholes until
band fits (slightly stretched) evenly along
right front to coloured thread on hood.
Tie a coloured thread at beg of next row and
cont in rib until band fits (slightly stretched)
along outer edge of hood to other coloured
thread.
Tie a coloured thread at beg of next and cont
in rib until band fits (slightly stretched) 1
cm/½ in less along left front edge.
Break off C1.
Using C2, work 2 rows rib.
Cast/bind off in rib.
FINISHING
DO NOT PRESS. Using yarn needle, darn in
ends. Using yarn needle and back stitch, sew
in sleeves evenly between coloured threads
on Back and Fronts, placing centre of sleeve
to shoulder seams. Join side and sleeve
seams. Slip st pocket linings and side edge of
pocket bands in position. Stitch front band in
position, placing buttonholes to right front and
matching coloured threads. Sew on buttons to
correspond with buttonholes.
