Materials<br />

3 Stitch Holders; A Yarn Needle; 9 Buttons.<br />

TENSION/gauge<br />

19 sts <strong>and</strong> 32 rows to 10 cm/4 ins over<br />

pattern, using 5.00mm (US 8), (UK 6)<br />

<strong>Knitting</strong> <strong>Needles</strong>.<br />

Note - Correct tension/gauge is essential for<br />

a successful h<strong>and</strong>knit.<br />

CREATE<br />

Back<br />

Using 5.00mm (US 8), (UK 6) <strong>Needles</strong> <strong>and</strong> C2,<br />

cast on 67 (75-79-83-87-91) sts.<br />

Note - Do not cut yarns when working in colour<br />

stripes, instead carry yarn not in use loosely up<br />

side of work until required again.<br />

1st row (RS) - K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last<br />

st, K1.<br />

2nd row - K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.<br />

Last 2 rows form 1 x 1 rib.<br />

Using C1, rep 1st <strong>and</strong> 2nd rows until work<br />

measures 4 (5-5-5-6-6) cms/1½ (2-2-2-2½-<br />

2½) ins from beg, ending with a 2nd row. **<br />

Beg patt - Using C2, 1st row (RS) - Knit.<br />

2nd row - K3, * yft, sl 1 purlways, ybk, K3, rep<br />

from * to end.<br />

Using C1, 3rd row - Knit.<br />

4th row - K1, * yft, sl 1 purlways, ybk, K3,<br />

rep from * to last 2 sts, yft, sl 1 purlways,<br />

ybk, K1.<br />

Rows 1 to 4 incl form patt.<br />

Cont in patt until work measures 33 (37-39-<br />

41-43-45) cms/<br />

13 (15-15½-16½-17-18) ins from beg,<br />

working last row on WS.<br />

Tie a coloured thread at each end of last<br />

row to mark beg of armholes as there is no<br />

armhole shaping.<br />

Cont in patt until work measures 15 (16-18-<br />

19-20-21) cms/<br />

6 (6½-7-7½-8-8½) ins from coloured<br />

threads, working last row on WS.<br />

Shape shoulders - Keeping patt correct,<br />

cast/bind off 20 (24-26-28-30-32) sts at<br />

beg of next 2 rows.<br />

Leave rem 27 sts on a stitch holder.<br />

Left Front<br />

Using 5.00mm (US 8), (UK 6) <strong>Needles</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

C2, cast on 35 (39-39-43-43-47) sts.<br />

Work in 1 x 1 rib as for lower b<strong>and</strong> of Back<br />

to **.<br />

Beg patt - Work 4 rows patt as for Back.<br />

Shape pocket - Keeping patt correct, Next<br />

row - Patt 15, turn.<br />

Cont in patt on these 15 sts until pocket<br />

opening measures 10 (10-11-11-12-14)<br />

cms/4 (4-4½-4½-5-5½) ins, working last<br />

row on RS. Break off yarn.<br />

Leave sts on a spare needle.<br />

With RS facing, join yarn to rem sts <strong>and</strong> patt<br />

to end.<br />

Cont in patt until work measures same as<br />

pocket opening, ending with same patt row.<br />

With WS facing, place all sts onto the same<br />

needle.<br />

Cont in patt across all sts until work measures<br />

same as Back to coloured threads, ending<br />

with same patt row.<br />

Tie a coloured thread at end of last row to<br />

mark beg of armhole as there is no armhole<br />

shaping.<br />

Cont in patt until work measures same<br />

as Back from coloured threads to beg of<br />

shoulder shaping, ending with same patt row.<br />

Right Front<br />

Work to correspond with Left Front to ***, working<br />

1 extra row before shape pocket <strong>and</strong> noting to tie<br />

a coloured thread for armhole at beg of last row<br />

instead of end.<br />

Work 1 row.<br />

Shape shoulder - Next row (WS) - Cast/bind off<br />

20 (24-26-28-30-32) sts, patt to end.<br />

Slip rem 15 (15-13-15-13-15) sts on a stitch<br />

holder <strong>and</strong> leave for hood.<br />

Sleeves<br />

Using 5.00mm (US 8), (UK 6) <strong>Needles</strong> <strong>and</strong> C2,<br />

cast on 35 (35-39-39-43-43) sts.<br />

Work in 1 x 1 rib as for lower b<strong>and</strong> of Back to **.<br />

Beg patt - Work 4 rows patt as for Back.<br />

Cont in patt <strong>and</strong> working extra sts into patt, inc<br />

one st at each end of next row, then in every foll<br />

6th row until there are 55 (59-67-71-75-79) sts.<br />

Cont in patt without shaping until work measures<br />

28 (33-38-40-42-43) cms/11 (13-15-16-16½-<br />

17) ins from beg, working last row on WS.<br />

Cast/bind off very loosely.<br />

Hood<br />

Using yarn needle <strong>and</strong> back stitch, join shoulder<br />

seams.<br />

With RS facing, using 5.00mm <strong>Needles</strong> (US 8),<br />

(UK 6) <strong>Needles</strong> <strong>and</strong> C2, knit across sts from right<br />

front stitch holder - dec 2 (2-0-2-0-2) sts evenly<br />

across, knit across sts from back stitch holder,<br />

then knit across sts from left front stitch holder -<br />

dec 2 (2-0-2-0-2) sts evenly across = 55 sts.<br />

Tie a coloured thread at each end of row.<br />

Cont in patt as for Back (beg with a 2nd row), inc<br />

one st at each end of 3rd row, then in every foll<br />

6th row until there are 73 (73-73-77-77-79) sts.<br />

Cont in patt without shaping until work measures<br />

22 (22-24-24-26-28) cms/9 (9-9½-9½-10½-<br />

11) ins from coloured threads, working last row<br />

on WS.<br />

Cast/bind off loosely.<br />

Pocket B<strong>and</strong>s<br />

With RS facing, using 5.00mm <strong>Needles</strong> (US 8),<br />

(UK 6) <strong>Needles</strong> <strong>and</strong> C1, knit up 19 (19-21-21-<br />

23-27) sts evenly along pocket opening side edge<br />

on front.<br />

Work in 1 x 1 rib as for lower b<strong>and</strong> of Back, beg<br />

with a 2nd row, until work measures 2.5 cms/1<br />

ins, ending with a 2nd row.<br />

Break off C1.<br />

Using C2, work 1 row rib.<br />

Cast/bind off loosely in rib.<br />

Work other pocket b<strong>and</strong> in same manner.<br />

Pocket Linings<br />

With RS facing, using 5.00mm <strong>Needles</strong> (US<br />

8), (UK 6) <strong>Needles</strong> <strong>and</strong> C1, knit up 18 (18-<br />

20-20-22-26) sts evenly along side edge of<br />

pocket opening closest to side edge of front.<br />

Work in stocking st, beg with a purl row, until<br />

pocket lining measures 1 cm/½ in less from<br />

pocket opening to centre front edge, ending<br />

with a purl row.<br />

Cast/bind off loosely.<br />

Work other pocket lining to correspond.<br />

Front B<strong>and</strong><br />

Fold cast/bind off edge of hood in half <strong>and</strong><br />

using yarn needle <strong>and</strong> back stitch, join seam<br />

to form top of hood.<br />

Using 5.00mm (US 8), (UK 6) <strong>Needles</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

C2, cast on 7 sts.<br />

Work 2 rows 1 x 1 rib as for lower b<strong>and</strong> of<br />

Back.<br />

Break off C2.<br />

Using C1, work 2 rows rib.<br />

** 5th row - K2, P1, cast/bind off one st,<br />

P1, K2.<br />

6th row - K1, P1, K1, turn, cast on one st,<br />

turn, K1, P1, K1 = buttonhole.<br />

Cont in rib for a further 5 (5.5-6-6.5-7-7.5)<br />

cms/2 (2-2½-2½-3-3) ins, ending with a 2nd<br />

row. **<br />

Rep from ** to ** 8 times = 9 buttonholes<br />

in total.<br />

Cont in rib without further buttonholes until<br />

b<strong>and</strong> fits (slightly stretched) evenly along<br />

right front to coloured thread on hood.<br />

Tie a coloured thread at beg of next row <strong>and</strong><br />

cont in rib until b<strong>and</strong> fits (slightly stretched)<br />

along outer edge of hood to other coloured<br />

thread.<br />

Tie a coloured thread at beg of next <strong>and</strong> cont<br />

in rib until b<strong>and</strong> fits (slightly stretched) 1<br />

cm/½ in less along left front edge.<br />

Break off C1.<br />

Using C2, work 2 rows rib.<br />

Cast/bind off in rib.<br />

FINISHING<br />

DO NOT PRESS. Using yarn needle, darn in<br />

ends. Using yarn needle <strong>and</strong> back stitch, sew<br />

in sleeves evenly between coloured threads<br />

on Back <strong>and</strong> Fronts, placing centre of sleeve<br />

to shoulder seams. Join side <strong>and</strong> sleeve<br />

seams. Slip st pocket linings <strong>and</strong> side edge of<br />

pocket b<strong>and</strong>s in position. Stitch front b<strong>and</strong> in<br />

position, placing buttonholes to right front <strong>and</strong><br />

matching coloured threads. Sew on buttons to<br />

correspond with buttonholes.<br />
