YARN<br />

#009 9 (9-11-12) x 50g balls<br />

<strong>Needles</strong><br />

A 5.00mm (US 8), (UK 6) Circular Needle or size<br />

that gives correct tension/gauge.<br />

Materials<br />

A Yarn Needle; Matching plain yarn for sewing<br />

seams.<br />

TENSION/gauge<br />

15 sts <strong>and</strong> 21 rows to 10 cm/4 ins over<br />

stocking st, using 5.00mm (US 8), (UK 6)<br />

<strong>Knitting</strong> <strong>Needles</strong>.<br />

Note - Correct tension/gauge is essential<br />

for a successful h<strong>and</strong>knit.<br />

Abbreviations<br />

St/s - stitch/es, K - Knit, P - Purl, RS - right<br />

side, WS - wrong side, stocking st - 1 row K, 1<br />

row P, patt - pattern, sl - slip next st purlways,<br />

rep - repeat, beg - begin/ning, cont - continue,<br />

inc - increase, dec - decrease, rem - remain/<br />

ing, foll - follow/ing, alt - alternate.<br />

CREATE<br />

Shrug (beg with Sleeve)<br />

Using 5.00mm (US 8), (UK 6) Circular Needle, cast<br />

on 50 sts.<br />

Note - Work in rows not rounds.<br />

Beg patt - 1st row (RS) - * P2, K1, sl 1, K1, rep<br />

from * to end.<br />

2nd row - * P3, K2, rep from * to end.<br />

Last 2 rows form patt.<br />

Cont in patt until work measures 25 cms/10 ins<br />

from beg, working last row on RS, thus completing<br />

cuff for sleeve.<br />

Note - RS of cuff will be facing when cuff is<br />

folded back.<br />

Work 2 rows stocking st (beg with a knit row).<br />

Cont in stocking st, inc one st at each end of next<br />

row, then in every foll 4th row until there are 78<br />

(74-70-72) sts, then in every foll alt row until<br />

there are 82 (90-98-104) sts.<br />

Cont without shaping until work measures 56 (58-<br />

60-64) cms/22½ (23-24-25½) ins from beg,<br />

ending with a purl row.<br />

Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to<br />

mark end of sleeve seam.<br />

Beg Back - Cont in stocking until work<br />

measures 50 (54-58-60) cms/20 (21½-23-<br />

24) ins from coloured threads, ending with<br />

a purl row.<br />

Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to<br />

mark end of Back.<br />

Beg Sleeve - Work in stocking st until sleeve<br />

measures the same as other sleeve from first<br />

coloured threads to end of sleeve shaping,<br />

ending with a purl row.<br />

Dec one st at each end of next row, then in<br />

every foll alt row until 76 (72-68-70) sts rem,<br />

then in every foll 4th row until 50 sts rem.<br />

Work 2 rows stocking st.<br />

Work in patt as for other sleeve, beg with a<br />

2nd row (WS) until patt section measures 25<br />

cms/10 ins working last row on WS.<br />

Cast/bind off loosely in patt.<br />

Collar<br />

With WS facing <strong>and</strong> using 5.00mm (US 8),<br />

(UK 6) Circular Needle, knit up 75 (80-85-90)<br />

sts evenly along one side of Shrug between<br />

coloured threads.<br />

Note - Work in rows not rounds.<br />

1st row (WS) - * P3, K2, rep from * to end.<br />

2nd row - * P2, K1, sl 1, K1, rep from * to<br />

end.<br />

Rep 1st <strong>and</strong> 2nd rows until collar measures 15<br />

cms/6 ins from beg, working last row on WS.<br />

Cast/bind off loosely in patt.<br />

FINISHING<br />

DO NOT PRESS. Using yarn needle, darn in<br />

ends. Usng yarn needle, matching plain yarn<br />

<strong>and</strong> back stitch, join sleeve seams to coloured<br />

threads (beg of collar), reversing seam for half<br />

of patt sections of sleeves for cuff. Turn back<br />

cuff onto RS.<br />
