YARN #019<br />

1 x 300g ball to make <strong>Scarf</strong> & <strong>Hat</strong><br />

<strong>Needles</strong><br />

A pair 4.00mm (US 6), (UK 8) <strong>Knitting</strong><br />

<strong>Needles</strong>, or size that gives correct<br />

tension/gauge.<br />

Materials<br />

A Yarn Needle.<br />

TENSION/gauge<br />

21 sts <strong>and</strong> 29 rows to 10 cm/4 ins over<br />

stocking st, using 4.00mm (US 6), (UK 8)<br />

<strong>Knitting</strong> <strong>Needles</strong>.<br />

Note - Correct tension/gauge is<br />

essential for a successful h<strong>and</strong>knit.<br />

Abbreviations<br />

St/s - stitch/es, K - Knit, P - Purl,<br />

stocking st - 1 row K, 1 row P, RS - right<br />

side, WS - wrong side, rep - repeat, beg<br />

- begin/ning, cont - continue, yon - yarn<br />

over needle to make a st, sl - slip, patt -<br />

pattern, K2tog - knit 2 sts together, rem<br />

- remain/ing.<br />

CREATE<br />

<strong>Scarf</strong><br />

Using 4.00mm (US 6), (UK 8) <strong>Needles</strong>, cast<br />

on 45 sts.<br />

1st row (RS) - P3, * K4, P3, rep from *<br />

to end.<br />

2nd row - K3, * P4, K3, rep from * to end.<br />

Last 2 rows form rib.<br />

Cont in rib until work measures approx 128<br />

cms/51 ins from beg, ending with a 2nd<br />

row. Cast/bind off loosely in rib.<br />

<strong>Hat</strong><br />

Using 4.00mm (US 6), (UK 8) <strong>Needles</strong>,<br />

cast on 95 sts.<br />

1st row (RS) - K2, * P1, K1, rep from<br />

* to last st, K1.<br />

2nd row - K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to<br />

end.<br />

Rep 1st <strong>and</strong> 2nd rows until work<br />

measures 5.5 cms/2 ins from beg,<br />

ending with a 2nd row.<br />

Beg patt - 1st row (RS) - K1, * K1,<br />

yon, sl 1, rep from * to last 2 sts, K2.<br />

2nd row (WS) - K1, * yon, sl 1, knit<br />

together the yon <strong>and</strong> sl 1, rep from *<br />

to last 2 sts, yon, sl 1, K1.<br />

3rd row - K1, * knit together the yon<br />

<strong>and</strong> sl 1, yon, sl 1, rep from * to last 3<br />

sts, knit together the yon <strong>and</strong> sl 1, K1.<br />

Rep 2nd <strong>and</strong> 3rd rows until work<br />

measures approx 27 cms/11 ins from<br />

beg, ending with a 2nd row.<br />

Next row - K1, * K2tog, K1, rep from<br />

* to last st, K1.<br />

Break off yarn leaving a long end. Run<br />

end through rem sts, draw up tightly<br />

<strong>and</strong> fasten off securely.<br />

FINISHING<br />

<strong>Scarf</strong> - Due to the rib pulling in you will<br />

need to press the scarf very carefully<br />

on the WS to the width stated in<br />

measurements. Using a slightly damp<br />

cloth <strong>and</strong> warm iron, press very lightly<br />

on WS, noting not to flatten rib. Using<br />

yarn needle, darn in ends.<br />

If desired, using remaining yarn attach<br />

a fringe to cast on <strong>and</strong> cast/bound off<br />

edges of scarf.<br />

<strong>Hat</strong> - DO NOT PRESS. Using yarn<br />

needle, darn in ends. Using yarn needle<br />

<strong>and</strong> mattress st seam, join back seam.<br />
