Trust your heart
to the top
Beverly Bennett knew in her
heart she was in the best hospital in
Cuyahoga County.
Parma Hospital has been
recognized as the top hospital in the
county for coronary interventions
and cardiology services by
HealthGrades, the nation’s leading
quality rankings firm. In fact, for two
years in a row HealthGrades has
named Parma Hospital among the
100 Best Hospitals in the nation –
and among the Top Five in Ohio for
the past five years – for coronary
intervention. Parma Hospital also
ranked among the top hospitals in
the state for overall cardiac services.
“It’s just an ideal location,” said
Bennett, a Cleveland resident
whose cardiac condition has been
monitored regularly by cardiologist
James Sechler, MD at Cardiovascular
Clinic, a large cardiology practice
with an office in Parma Hospital’s
Medical Arts Center 3.
When Bennett’s valve disease
required surgery, she chose
cardiothoracic surgeon Joseph
Lahorra, MD, who replaced her
aortic valve and repaired a leaking
mitral valve. She recovered in
Parma Hospital’s Heart Center,
where patients stay in the same
unit from surgery through
discharge.
There are many reasons to
choose Parma Hospital’s Heart
Center, including excellent intraoperative
and post-operative
outcomes and lower complication
rates than national benchmarks.
“All the people were just great,”
said Bennett, who enjoyed visits
during her stay in the Heart Center
from her daughter and son-in-law,
who are legally blind, and their
seeing-eye dog. “They made you
feel comfortable and they made
you feel at home. You couldn’t
get better care.”
Robotic GYN
Surgery
Paul Hudock, MD
Department OF OB-GYN
What is special about robotic surgery?
Parma Hospital has the latest version of
the surgical platform for robotic surgery.
Robotic surgery is a tool to provide the
best minimally invasive options that translate
into shorter hospital stays, less pain,
less blood loss and lower risk of infection.
What types of gynecologic surgeries can
be performed?
Most procedures, particularly hysterectomies
(removal of the uterus), oophorectomies
(removal of ovaries) and myomectomies
(surgical removal of fibroid tumors
that leaves the uterus intact), are now
being performed robotically. We can also
perform robotic surgery for endometriosis,
pelvic organ prolapse and tubal ligation.
Remember, the surgeon is still doing
the surgery, but they operate by controlling
the robot.
Does it improve my recovery in any way?
Recovery is quite a bit faster for patients
who choose this minimally invasive option.
The incisions are tiny and less tissue
is disrupted, making the healing process
smoother. All of my da Vinci patients have
successfully been discharged without
needing any narcotic pain medication.
Patients leave the hospital sooner, which
translates into a quicker return to normal
activities.
Are there cases when robotic surgery is
not advisable?
Cases that involve severe pelvic adhesions
or particularly large tumors are not
recommended to be done robotically. Talk
to your doctor about your specific case.
Two gynecologists are trained in robotic
surgery. Call to make an appointment.
