Motion made (Mr. lFade), (1). The declared policy <strong>of</strong> the Government, that, in the proposed<br />

repeal <strong>of</strong> the Conversion Act, they will not preserve in their entirety the rights <strong>of</strong> all<br />

those' persons who are now entitled to convert their holdings, thereby repudiating a<br />

Statutory compact : Further, the obstacles placed in the way <strong>of</strong> intending occupants <strong>of</strong><br />

Crown land who may be desirous <strong>of</strong> acquiring a freehold : Further, the discontinuance <strong>of</strong><br />

resut~ptions <strong>of</strong> land under the Closer Settlement Acts : Further, the proposal, under the<br />

Workers' Dwellings Bill, to deprive workers <strong>of</strong> the right to acquire freehold title to land<br />

in coiinection with their homes-tend to embarrass persons engaged a in rural pursuits- to<br />

discourage land settlement, and aN inimical to the best interests <strong>of</strong> this State. (2.) That<br />

the foregoing be conveyed by Address to His Excellency the Lieu tenant-Governor, and<br />

negatived, 129 ; amendment mOvjd (Mr . David Storey) to add the following words :-<br />

Further, that the proposal to ineldde within the provisions <strong>of</strong> the Industrial Arbitration<br />

Bill, rural workers, is against the ipterests <strong>of</strong> Land Settlement, negatived, 129.<br />
