Given DoCS responsibilities for child protection, what policy governs a report to DoCS in respect <strong>of</strong> a<br />

parent's alleged mistreatment <strong>of</strong> a child, when the reporter asks that the report be formally recorded, but<br />

to prevent possible repercussions for the child specifically requests that DoCS does not contact the<br />

alleged <strong>of</strong>fender?<br />

Answer—<br />

The safety, welfare and wellbeing <strong>of</strong> a child or young person, is the paramount consideration when<br />

deciding action to protect a child or young person from harm. Judgements about whether, and when, to<br />

interview the alleged perpetrator are made on a case by case basis taking into account factors such as the<br />

safety <strong>of</strong> the child.<br />
